First, she became Twilight Sparkle, the element of Magic; then she became Twilight Sparkle, the Princess of Friendship. Then the savior of two universes, then the rejuvenator of the Tree of Harmony, then owner of the Castle of Friendship. The Redeemer of Starlight Glimmer, the aunt of the world's most powerful alicorn, the headmistress of the School of Friendship. So it went.

And at the end of it all, she realized that Twilight Sparkle didn't really exist anymore - all that was left of her was a series of titles, awards and obligations, and the pony that held it all together was little more than a puppet to the demands of the world around her.

And when she understood that Twilight Sparkle was as good as gone, a second option opened itself up to her: if she could unfetter herself from the glory she had worked all her life to obtain, would Twilight Sparkle exist again - not as a name attached to a role, but a pony with her own hopes, dreams and desires?

And if she did, what would come next?

One late night, her mother affords her a gift.

There is the glimmer of starlight.  One who listens, when none is really there to see the desperate tears.

After Twilight blasted Sunset with the 'Rainbow beam' , she is broken. lost and cannot forgive herself. Her new friends help her to realise what she is missing, teach her to forgive herself and to help her fit in, standing by her side despite the odds.

Happens after the night of the Fall Formal.

As a pegasus colt living in Cloudsdale, John Darkblaze loves nothing more than soaring through the skies above his hometown. He believes that there is nothing better that pegasi can achieve than the ability of flight and the freedom one feels when flying. But, when he becomes involved in a traumatic accident that rips this ability away from him, he feels that he cannot belong in society as a pegasus who can't fly. Just when he is about to give up on everything however, a small light appears at the end of the tunnel; will it be enough to pull him to of his funk and back into reality?

Twilight Sparkle has always been an outcast. Everywhere she went, people managed to make her feel unwanted in one way or another. She can't say she got used to it, because she hasn't. But she can say that she sometimes knows how to avoid it, and that means being away from everyone. But when the Friendship Games draw near, Twilight is forced into the spotlight, which is far from good. Soon the pressure rises, and the students finally get what they've been waiting for.
And it has Midnight written all over it.
