Pinkamena is the equine embodiment of the Element of Laughter. Maudelina is in a happy, fulfilling relationship. Marble is doted on and mollycoddled by her parents. But everyone forgets the eldest Pie sister - where does she go with her sorrows?

This fic (as with its sister fic, Maud) relies on a small degree of head canon. Specifically, the idea that Lauren Faust's original concept for Pinkie Pie, the white and yellow pegasus named Surprise, was actually the youngest of the Pie sisters. This idea has been explored by other authors, and although there is a Wonderbolt of the same name and appearance canonically, the idea of a fifth Pie sister has always intrigued me.

It's the spooky season of October and Pinkie wants to celebrate the approaching Halloween with scary movies. She gets her sisters together to watch a horror movie, but rather than a typical scary movie with ghosts or slashers, she wants to try out something a little more hardcore. So, she picks out Rob Zombie's cult classic, The Devil's Rejects.

Time Turner comes to Rockville on official geological business; unfortunately that business involves greenlighting a project to destroy the Painted Hills, a local natural wonder and a fondly remembered foalhood locale of local rock farmer, Maud Pie. Unhappy with his assignment, Time seeks Maud's help in saving the landmark by uncovering an ancient secret. The more time they spend together in the hills, the more their weirdness seems to fit together... Oh, yes and Maud's pet rock turned jealous ex, Boulder is trying to kill them which appears connected to it all in some strange way.

Maud Pie is a simple pony in a complicated world filled with nearly-impossible-to-understand creatures. Why don't others just say what they mean instead of using all those unnecessary words? Why don't they understand her when she says exactly what she means? If she tries to provide proper context to help them, they get bored. Still, she tries her best to be clear and make herself understood, even in the face of questions whose context is most of her life and the geological history of the world. In those little pauses before she speaks, Maud thinks fast. This is one such question.
