Ponyville Middle School is having their annual staff-only theater production for everyone to enjoy! This year, they are doing the beloved musical Mary Cloppins, with Team 7C's shy science teacher Lilac Wishes playing the titular mare herself. During showtime, however, mysterious incidents keep happening. Someone is trying to ruin the show! Will the teachers ever find out the culprit behind this mess?

He is known as Noteworthy. However, there is much more to this 'earth pony' than meets the eye. His real name is Patch Melody. Once a prince from another land, he was the consul of music in Equestria. When he is framed by an old enemy, Patch must flee the castle and his old life. Hiding as Noteworthy, a simple pony in the background of Ponyville, he soon realizes that keeping his secret will be much more difficult than he thought. Meanwhile, a dark force grows, threatening all that is musical in the world. It is up to Noteworthy and his 'new' friends to save Equestria from a silent future. Along the way, they all realize that in friendship, there are two sides to every story.

This takes place right after Season 1 Episode 10 in the Main Universe
(The story is written to fit within the timeline of the show, inspired by all the appearances of Noteworthy in the background. Ever wondered why he was sometimes a cyclops or a pegasus?)

Noteworthy's an unsuccessful songwriter and he sees the gray mare sitting there time and time again, unable to bring himself to approach her; the elegant cellist with the treble clef cutie mark. I mean, what would he even say to her? He doesn't even know her name.

When getting ready for the concert that was supposed to be performed the next day, Noteworthy gets sick with the hay fever along with most of the ensemble that is supposed to be ready. Octave takes it upon himself to nurse Noteworthy back to health before the time the concert takes place.

On orders of Princess Celestia and Captain of the Canterlot Guard Gibraltar, the Ponyville contingent of the E.U.P. Guard, lead by Lieutenant Meadow Song, is sent to shadow the trip of the Element Bearers with "Bloomberg" to Appleloosa. They quickly become caught up in the conflict between the Appleloosans and buffalo tribe, rumored to be deliberately being stoked by ex-Agent of Chaos rebels in the area, and have to separate truth from fiction while upholding the duty of protecting Equestrian citizens. What happens? You'll have to read to find out!

Noteworthy's marefriend, Cipher Splash, is almost perfect. She's cute, witty, and great in bed. There's just one issue: she won't open up to him at all, dodging any and all personal questions. Months have passed, and he still knows next to nothing about her as a pony. Eventually, one of them has to give. What worries Noteworthy is the possibility that the first pony who does will be him.

A submission to the Two-Faced Charade Contest, as well as a companion piece to Cipher — Decryption. Reading both stories is recommended, but not necessary.

One day, the Cutie Mark Crusaders are approached by Noteworthy, who has a problem. His marefriend, Cipher Splash, won't tell him what her cutie mark means, and nopony else seems to know either. Each clue they uncover only deepens the mystery and drives them further up the proverbial wall. Can the crusaders keep themselves from going insane and finally uncover the truth, or will Cipher live up to her name?
