Twilight Sparkle's coronation as the sole ruler of Equestria is right around the corner. To not disappoint her, Sunset Shimmer decides to come back to Equestria for the first time since her theft of the Princess's crown to attend.

Said Princess's student, Starlight, is there to greet her, but the two of them are surprised to find that Sunset is a princess herself - or at least an alicorn, and her arrival may have unintended consequences for a trio of recently imprisoned villains.

Flurry Heart attempts to court Cozy Glow. Luster Dawn nearly dies as a result.

A long time has passed since the events detailed in Friendship is Magic, and now, Twilight's friends are long dead except for Rarity, who now lives her life as a retired old mare in the Canterlot Royal District, near her best friend...

And then, Discord got an idea...

Following her heart, Princess Flurry Heart allows herself to be taken prisoner by Cozy Glow, Empress of Tartarus.

You really do need to keep an eye on Cozy Glow. Turn your back for a second and she's off, away and escaping. Over the hills! Out to the sticks! Out to villages that might maybe possibly have not heard about what she did, or at least not yet.

There to plot, there to plan, there to get started on getting everything running smoothly and like it should again. Or at least get started on cooking up some revenge. Either way.

And there's also that weird alien thing she came across. He could be useful...

The mental contest between Chrysalis and Cozy Glow over who would manipulate who has gone on for far too long. Luckily, Chrysalis recently found a foolproof method of finally overcoming the filly's impudence! With a genius like her at the helm, there was no way her plan would backfire.

Probably.
