Episode Re-Review: Top Bolt · 4:49pm Jun 4th, 2021

For the third and final map mission of Season 6, we were going to be playing it safe once again and visiting the Wonderbolts academy with Twilight and Rainbow Dash. The two had last been paired up for "Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3", not exactly the best outing for either of them. And Season 6 had last focused on Rainbow Dash during "28 Pranks Later" which was not a good showing for her. To top all this off, it would be our first Wonderbolts episode since "Newbie Dash". So a lot was working against

Episode Re-Review: Where The Apple Lies · 5:48pm Jun 3rd, 2021

This episode was originally going to air in the U.K. early, but due to the show changing networks there it had to make changes owing to regional differences: In the U.K. cider is seen as an alcoholic beverage, whereas in the U.S. it is not (at least not by default). That's arguably what this episode ended up being remembered for far more than what it was initially hoped it would be known for. But I'm getting ahead of myself. David Rapp was once again in the writer's seat, and this time the

Episode Re-Review: 28 Pranks Later · 4:57pm May 27th, 2021

Hey, remember "The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" and how bad that episode was? How it became the first episode of the show to be truly despised? Well I guess someone thought it would be a good idea to revisit that and try to "fix" it. The story is credited to Meghan McCarthy, just like in "Flutter Brutter". But to actually write the episode a new writer was brought in in the form of F. M. DeMarco who had previously worked on the 2012 Littlest Pet Shop cartoon (FiM's sister show, it

Episode Re-Review: A Hearth's Warming Tail · 7:32pm May 19th, 2021

Because a Christmas episode in May is totally not out of place or anything like that. Yes, I know the episodes are not set in any particular order, but seriously why is that we only got one Christmas themed episode that aired in time for Christmas and the rest all aired far in advance? Well anyway, Season 6 really needed something to get it back on the right track after "Newbie Dash" bombed and even "No Second Prances" was hotly contested, almost like the opposite of the one two punch

Episode Re-Review: Gift of the Maud Pie · 4:23pm May 14th, 2021

So after a not entirely stellar premiere, Season 6 really needed something to keep the faith alive. To fill the gap left by old writers departing, new ones were brought in again starting with Michael P. and Will Fox who were brothers. However, Josh Haber was helping them out on the story. And we were going to Manehattan and would be seeing Maud Pie, both of which had been overplayed. But maybe we'd get a chance to see something new from both? Well, let's find out.

Episode Re-Review: Rarity Investigates · 10:52pm May 2nd, 2021

Sure didn't take long for Canterlot Carousel to become relevant, and with our first proper RariDash episode to boot. However, the writers were a bit of a concern. Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco were on tap here, and their only prior result had been "Castle, Sweet Castle" which had been a dud. Fortunately, they weren't doing it alone this time. They had help on the story from both Meghan McCarthy and M. A. Larson, kind of odd that both were pitching in but I guess neither had the time to fully

Episode Re-Review: Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? · 5:41pm Apr 29th, 2021

Because having one dream episode per season wasn't enough, now we had one focused directly on Princess Luna. Scott Sonneborn was writing this episode, though the story was credited to both Jayson Thiesen and Jim Miller like with "Princess Spike" and "Party Pooped". Considering how bad the former turned out and considering the latter had received a rather lukewarm reception, that wasn't exactly a formula for success. But hey, Scott had worked well with M. A. Larson and Meghan McCarthy for "The

Episode Re-Review: Twilight Time · 5:53pm Apr 6th, 2021

Just when you thought Twilight being an alicorn was just going to be ignored and forgotten, this episode came along and turned that all on its head. Dave Polsky, fresh off his success from "Rarity Takes Manehattan" was ready to tackle his first ever CMC episode. Yet this episode doesn't get talked about much either way, it seems to be among Season 4's forgotten episodes. Is there a reason for that? Well, let's find out.

Episode Re-Review: Swarm of the Century · 6:28pm Jan 29th, 2021

So now we come to the first (but certainly not the last) of what could be said to be unpopular opinions from me. Everyone seems to like this episode, and it's the debut of M. A. Larson who was a fan favorite writer once upon a time. So that should be a recipe for success, right? Well, let's just get through this episode and see what happens.
