Just because I wrote it, doesn't mean I can't ruthlessly mock it with relevant parody songs
Just because I wrote it, doesn't mean I can't ruthlessly mock it with relevant parody songs
To make a long story short, I was listening to some music, and a rather... unusual song popped up. Said song gave me some... unusual ideas regarding a certain story of mine, which is already well outside my writing comfort zone. So I thought to myself "Sure, why not throw this in, too? It's not like it was the most coherent of stories to begin with."
So having finally watched the episode... it was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good, and really underlined how far Starlight and Twilight have yet to go.
Let me take a moment to discuss something I rarely run into but that ticks me off to perhaps inordinate amounts whenever I do - intrusive romance. Now, while I'll openly admit that I'm perhaps more accepting of this sort of thing when the ships I sail are involved, it still annoys me even then; basically, a rule of thumb of mine is that if romance isn't in the premise, then it should be kept below a certain threshold of involvement in the actual story.
I've been reading a bunch of Dazzlings fics as of late, and there's a common theme across all but a few that I personally take issue with - the notion of the Sirens as immortals. Sure, it's been used rather well in certain fics, but it also feels to me that people are forgetting a rather important aspect of how the EQG world works that was established pretty early on - time difference.
So, one of my two pre-readers has gotten back to me about Temptation Waits. They brought up several very good points, so once my other editor has read the chapter, I'll be moving it to the Cutting Room Floor and heavily revising and adding onto certain sections, as I got so wrapped up in describing certain aspects of the story that I neglected others. Furthermore, I realized on my own that the chapter kind of veers off on a needless tangent near the end, so I'll be trying to reel that in
So I finally finished the second chapter! I'll wait to hear back from my pre-readers before posting, but in the meantime, here's some related material.
This is just a screencap, but hey. Sunset at sunset.
Temptation Waits will be updating soon.
I've also been doing some brainstorming on Contrast, and have been attempting to look at TAS and OR again; I've neglected them far too long. Let's see how things turn out.
Aside from that, not much worth noting at the moment, though I'm sure I'll remember something later.
I made more progress on Temptation Waits, and you can in fact see that my progress list, now to be found beneath the stories tab on my main page. Just pointing it out.
Also, on an unrelated note, this is a thing:
Best Mane 6: Rarity
Best Humane 6: Sunset Shimmer

Best Siren: Aria
Best Villain x3: Nightmare Moon, Queen Chrysalis, Dazzlings
Best Background Pony x3: Minuette, Ditzy, Chalcedony
Best Serpent: STEPHEN FAUST-DAMN MAGNET
Quick update before I attempt to get some actual sleep - When I posted "A Walk At Midnight," I had not really added to the chapter yet; all of the stuff I showed you had been written several months before. So I started out last night with ~348 words.
“Hey, that’s where Fluttershy and Rainbow work.” Sunset commented idly as they passed a fast-food restaurant. It was locked up and dark at this early hour, though the large sign near the street was still lit, proudly displaying a generic trademarked logo to the impassive night sky and casting the sidewalk below in an orange glow.
No, she needed to keep her mind off of the present situation, and so she turned her head to take in their surroundings as they limped onwards.
Garbage - Aria Blaze (Matched on Angry Tone)
Version 2.0 - Adagio Dazzle (Matched on Sexual Content)
Beautiful Garbage - Sonata Dusk (Matched on Comparative Softness)
I have a problem. Not that I listened to more Garbage music and came up with more ideas for a continuation, though that certainly contributes. No, my problem is this:
As I never got around to doing that review I promised, here instead are some general headcanons about each of the Humane Five (and Sunset Shimmer) and their lifestyles within the EQG universe. Pinkie's may actually be somewhat partially jossed as of Rainbow Rocks, but whatever.
Cell Phones
Rarity always has the latest phone, though she carries over the same number from the prior one, and hands off the older ones to Sweetie Belle.
I've been stuck on The Atlantis Scenario's first chapter for somewhere around two years now. I've been stalled on Of Responsibility's second one for about a year and a half.
...so why the hell was I able to power through this equivalent-length piece in just two days?
