Hello folks,

The topic for this post has been on my mind for a little while, and as I've been discussing and re-reading some older manuscripts I thought I'd go ahead and get out some thoughts on it.

There are several reasons to cut material from a story. Perhaps you changed your mind on where it's going, and something you wrote no longer fits. Perhaps what you wrote wasn't very good, and you just want to get rid of it.

Those cuts are usually easy to make.

I use the expression in the title (or variants of it) fairly regularly, but I wanted to expand upon the concept a little more in this blog post, mostly so I have something to link to in the future.
