Not today · 1:54am Dec 6th, 2017

My plan was: one story, one episode of 'Egregeous Uses', a week – until they're all done.
Not this week I'm afraid. I was busy with the writeoff. Go, read, vote. There are better entries than mine – go support them.
I'm behind, but not by a whole week. I might shift and release this (and future) fics on Saturdays. Maybe they'll attract more notice that way?

I Am Never Doing This Again (Warning! Long Blog Incoming!) · 12:20am Oct 20th, 2015

105 minifics in this month's writeoff. You can bet your Best Pony I won't try this a second time. From now on, I only review the stories I get by luck of the draw. In fact, I wouldn't even call the following 'reviews.' They're more like commentaries, because I limited each to 100 words or less. This didn't give me anywhere near enough room to say everything I wanted to, and sometimes my criticisms had to be cut painfully short. So yeah, these won't be as high-quality as my usual reviews.

New write-off story recs · 1:53am Feb 17th, 2015

We have 3 new good stories today from write-offs:

Dubious Enchantment by bookplayer. This is a cute story about Twilight trying to get Pinkie's money back for some purchases she made from a merchant of artifacts of unspeakable evil. 2nd place winner in the Feb. write-off. That was, like, today.

Writeoff's Masterpiece · 11:01pm Mar 21st, 2017

The Writeoff is already a great way to build your writing experience and get some quality feedback. This time around, they're trying something a little... different. Instead of just a phrase as a prompt, they're accepting art submissions based on that prompt. Authors will then write based on the artwork of their choice.

Story recommendation: Collaborators · 5:51am Nov 27th, 2014

The second-place story from the latest write-off, Collaborators, by the mysterious and diabolical Baal Bunny, went live a few hours ago, with significant changes to the beginning and the ending.

(Still no kissing, though. :ajsleepy:)

Feghoots for the good of humankind · 3:36am May 29th, 2019

Feghoots are the pinnacle of writing. This is not in question. What is in question is whether you have what it takes to participate in a feghoot fete, a hootenanny of hilarity, a jocund jamboree, a hoedown of humor.

Yeah, that's a dumb question. Of course you are. So head over here for the details.

Of Thomas Hobbes and Frontal Lobe Trauma · 12:03am Feb 18th, 2016

So I wrote a story for a writeoff a while back. Thrashed in the prelims before everyone came to their senses.

Since I couldn't sell it for the last few months, I figured I'd make it this week's blog post, and talk about what I wanted to do with it.

Signal boost: Bradbury minific contest · 3:10am Apr 19th, 2016

If you're a fan of Ray Bradbury (and if you like my writing, you either are or should be), here's something to keep an eye on: The Mid-Continent Public Library in Kansas City is sponsoring an open minifiction competition themed around Bradbury and his works. The prompt is to use at least one of a provided list of nouns (a block-breaking technique of his), and the story has to be 451 words or less. I don't think you get anything besides egoboo

Competitive Writing: The Brightest and the Best · 12:31am Dec 21st, 2014

Two weeks ago I had a go at the Writeoff competition, writing a story over a weekend to fit the prompt: Behind Closed Doors. This was my first attempt at such a competition. To my surprize, my story came out as the winner!

Introducing the First (and Possibly Only) NSFW WriteOff Event · 2:12am Sep 22nd, 2019

Except I've actually been writing a lot. Just not on here.

Stitches, live now! · 10:52pm Dec 25th, 2019

I'm super excited to have just won my first ever writeoff gold medal, for "Stitches" in the Cutting Corners event! Couldn't have asked for a better Christmas present. :pinkiehappy:

In a few minutes or so, I'll be dropping it here on FimFic as a Hearth's Warming present for everyone else, too.

I'm very proud of this one, and I hope you'll enjoy it (and spread the word about it, maybe?)

EDIT: Story is live!

That drone strike in Afghanistan... · 5:14pm Sep 26th, 2021

After the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and in particular after the drone strike that killed an aid worker and several family members, a few people reached out to ask about I story I wrote several years ago for the Writeoff original fiction contest. It was, in fact, the first original fiction piece I'd written in years, and it dealt with the (fictional) aftermath of drone strike that went wrong. I had removed it from the Writeoff site, but since enough people have inquired about it, I've decided

ARTS! · 10:57pm Dec 23rd, 2017

I did art! My original plan for this was to give it to the writeoff... which by now is two writeoffs ago. But I procrastinated. A lot.

I did, however, finish it about 4 days after the submission period ended, but then I procrastinated even more with taking pictures of it. But anyway, picture after the break.

An Original Fiction Contest (in Honor of Our Lord and Savior Corona-chan) · 6:23pm Mar 18th, 2020

It's been a few months since I posted horse words on here, but whenever I do post horse words, it's because of my affiliation with the folks at the Writeoff Association. Pretty much every horse fic I've published over the past year was originally a piece I wrote for a Writeoff contest. Sometimes we also have contests for original fiction, and an event I'll be hosting very soon will be much in that vein.
