Been a while since we’ve seen one of these posts! In fact, this is only the second one.

So this post isn’t quite a “Why You Should Read …” but at the same time, I did want to throw this book out for consideration.
Alright, it's high time I did another Top Shelf blog. These are always tricky to do because I haven't read these recently, and on rereads I always find I've forgotten a lot of important things, the sorts of things I need to remember for these blogs. That's why I was so lazy on "If Horses Had Gods" and pretty much just copy/pasted my story comments. So let's go with the easiest one I have left to do, since the others are both HUGE. This one I can at least skim through to remind myself of what's
Yes, I realize this is somewhat of a weird post. After all, Jungle came out just two weeks ago. If anything, I should be pushing you to read that.
This is another one you've probably heard of if you haven't already read it. So if you've been wondering what makes it such a classic and whether or not it's worth your time, let me sell it for you.

For these Middle Shelf blogs, I usually make one after I finish (or catch up on) whatever good fic I've just finished reading, if I remember to. There have been a lot I've meant to make blogs for but didn't until it was too late for my memory. This one is ongoing, and just updated a few hours ago, so let's get to it.

"Twi, you had me at secret agent. Then you added fame and glory and space. I think you can count me in."
You ever get to the end of a really good fic and then try picking up another one that doesn't immediately grab you the same way? Sucks, n'est-ce pas? Even worse when you find out it's still incomplete and you have to wait another month or six for an update.
Thought this blog series was long dead? So did I!
Overall, my passion for this fandom has definitely cooled over the past few years, and even my enthusiasm for the endless possibilities of fanfiction has ebbed. Over this past year or so, I even started picking up real, non-pony books again (and finishing them!) in situations where I'd traditionally be reading a fanfic on my phone instead.
To be really honest with you, I had a hard time not putting this one on the top shelf. But a while ago I decided to be more strict on what goes where, and even though it comes close, Not The Hero isn't quite on par with, say, Background Pony or The Immortal Game. Sorry, alarajrogers. It's probably mostly because it's not finished yet, to be honest. Once it's
And now, back to (if you haven't already...), the continuing stooooooory of a Brony and his quest for really good fanfics.
