Shadow Play - Reveiw and Meditations · 9:59am Oct 29th, 2017
Okay I'm going to risk somewhat going against the popular flow here but bear with me and everything that I will say will make sense.
Okay I'm going to risk somewhat going against the popular flow here but bear with me and everything that I will say will make sense.
Bwhahaha! I can taste the salty tears of butt-hurt and hear the murmur of lamentations over crushed head-canons already, and it is glorious!
Yeah, I'm getting good vibes from this story that I haven't really had for an finale since Season 4.
Here's a little prediction about what I would like to see:
Well, we found out the origins of the Tree of Harmony- it grew from a seed created by Starswirl and the rest of the Pillars of Old Equestria sacrificing themselves, sealing themselves away with the Pony of Shadows.
And that officially puts the show and comics in conflict again as Starswirl found the tree in the comics.
Word to the wise: Don't let anyone spoil you on the finale, it was amazing. Even me saying that is kind of spoily. If you think you've heard anything about it, go watch it right now, lest the best come across your plate like it did mine. D:
And season seven comes to a close, with a heck of a bang! :D I hope everyone enjoyed Shadow Play, because I sure as hell did!
Before I get into the reaction and analysis, I wanted to bring up something interesting. I was looking through transcripts recently and came across this gem, from The Crystalling, part 2:
I really don't like the explanation for the Tree given in Shadow Play, Part 2. IMO, it reduces the artefact and removes much of the mystery and wonder for it. Instead, I find myself preferring another explanation. One much like this (with apologises to Arthur C Clarke):
Call it the Tree of Harmony.
Mrs. Cake's laughter cut itself short as she noticed the ground was giving rhythmic tremors that were progressively growing stronger. She turned to the source, and her mouth opened in shock as she saw the biggest pony in recorded history walk up to her, cast his Warshovel down on the counter, and then sit and square her with his gaze.
"I hear you make the hardest punch in this...'Ponyville'." Rockhoof grunted. "I'll take a pint."
I was so busy this weekend that I barely made time to watch the newest episodes, much less work on my fimfics.
I just watched the finale of season 7, and I would like to give out my un-scripted and off-the-cuff impression of it.
Now THIS is what the pony movie should have been.
If I’d known I was in for this, I’d have just stayed home and watched these episodes today.
This is normally something I'd never do. I'm the sort of person who likes to stick around with an episode or movie until the end, even if it's obviously a bomb, because hey, there's a chance it'll get better, right?
After a long time of nothing, I have finally found inspiration again! This time, this new story of mine was inspired from the new episode, Shadow Play. The story centers around Stygian and the Darkness that tempted him to turn into the Pony of Shadows. Go ahead and give it a read!
Have a great November!
Following the MLP S7 finale:Shadow Play I will be writing a new one shot called:A wasted Life.
It will be about the IDW comic character Shadow Lock, for those not in the know he was established a year to year and a half BEFORE S7, he is a descendant of Stygian AKA the Pony of Shadows. His clan has spent over a thousand years anticipating his return and has been working to prevent it and the mere existence of Stygian from being known.
As much as I like season 7, I won't deny Shadow Play left a hella lot to be desired. Seriously, watch this video and you will agree with me:
Finale spoilers.
The tl;dr version : Star Swirl is a dick.
And so we close out Season 7. It’s been the Season of Family, the Season of Legend… and undeniably the Season of Leaks. Yeesh. Still, now that everyone’s had a chance to see this, let’s discuss it in detail.
