So I just completed writing and editing several future scenes for Equestrylvania. I'm feeling pretty good about myself, and get started on the scene that would connect them all so I can finally start publishing more chapters, and then
I still remember how the pilot to My Little Pony forced me to re-evaluate my relationship with the Sun and the Moon. It was a wake up call - an invitation to see them, not as GIANT BALLS OF SCIENCE AND STUFF (as had previously been believed), but as the magical horse princesses that they are!
Yesterday, I posted an essay about Summer Sun Setback, the princesses, and the fact that the end of the show is neigh. There are, however, a few more thoughts on the episode that I wanted to share that don't quite fit into that box.
The theme of Summer Sun Setback was growth - moving on, and the story reinforces that theme in a lot of little ways in 22 minutes.
On the one hand, we got an apology for last week. On the other, the writers felt last week called for an apology. Say what you will about crazy, competitive, and crazy-competitive Twilight, at least she knows when and how to put it away these days.
I’m continuing on with these early releases bit by bit. Think the hiatus is about to end, but as far I know that’ll be during my vacation far from home and I rather not miss anything. So getting ahead of the game it is then, just because it’s an option!
Think I’ve seen one screenshot of this, so with the rest I’m pretty much going in blind because it’s still too early for spoilers. Which been quite nice with these.
---Season 9--Episode 17--- After years of reading people's hot takes, "Idiot Ball" seems to have become a more succint, and somehow nicer, way of saying that the writing for a character is badly and contrived. It should mean that their actions are so contrived, it takes the viewer out of the story. But that issue is so recurrent and expected that critics have just turned it into a story beat of Friendship is Magic.
Well, what do you know, this episode delivers on not one, but many things I said just last episode we were in dire need of by this point. Of course, how well it executes said things can only be found out by looking at the episode itself. Best to do just that.
And here is Part 3 of today's Future Equestrian Stories Analyzis Firework, which is also the last part! Aside from the previews for the "Rainbow Roadtrip" Special and the official, english MLP: FiM manga, we've also gotten the synopses for Episodes 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of Season 9 on Tuesday! They contain quite a couple intriguing things and surprises, so I'll talk about them after the page break, as usual, to avoid spoilers!
This episode is a bombshell. I didn't expect what happened and I had to watch it seven times so that my brain could process all of it. Tirek, Chrysalis, Cozy Glow, Grogar, the LAST Summer Sun Celebration..... It's all an enormous mix of emotions; sadness, excitement, trepidation and fear. Fear for the Future.
