Because I wanted to and why not?
Anyway, pacing: how fast or slow a story moves and how the audience is engaged in it. I have no idea why, but it's one of the things I look at the most when I'm deciding whether a story is good or not. Is it fast? Slow? Could it afford to be faster? Slower?
So, what's good pacing? This is good pacing, as shown by Star Wars:

Everyone has this idea that bad pacing can ruin a work of fiction, but when people try to define what pacing is, things often get muddy. Sure, someone can say that the pacing is too fast and it makes it hard to follow the work, or say, it's too slow and they got bored with it. There's nothing wrong with this, it's just expressing a view of how they feel a work failed them.
So this last weekend I came to a conclusion. I'd spent the week writing, as usual, working on the first draft of Jungle (you know, that sequel to that Colony book everyone keeps talking about), but between being sick and low on sleep (said sickness really, really wanted me to sleep), something just wasn't clicking. Something about the chapter I was working on, even when I finished it, felt off.
Ah, romance... What a wonderful, wonderful thing, both to experience and to read.
Two individuals, slowly growing closer and closer together, their relationship changing, evolving into something new and beautiful, like a butterfly. Noticing something special about the other for the first time, first confession, first kiss... It's a beautiful process that takes time.
Why don't people get it?
Howdy, folks. Just wanted to tell y'all about my new story, Lazarus Bethany. I'm not going to say much about it, except that it's different. If you're following me, it's probably because of LBS or Everybody Wants to Have Sex With Twilight. This is considerably more serious and less funny than those. Just a warning, for those who want to read it and have an idea of what they're getting themselves into.
I gave my presentation at Ponyfest earlier today!
Unfortunately, we had some pretty major technical issues, so I lost almost half of my time, but I did end up giving the presentation, even if I had to skip some slides for time.
I believe that Ponyfest will be uploading all the panels online at some point, but the PowerPoint presentation I did is up on Google Docs for people to peruse at their leisure.
Hi! It's me. This is my first blog post and will not be my last. I am publishing a story and would like feedback after it is published. This blog post is just something that I expect to see in a lot of criticism, and that is pacing. If anyone has any pointers on the topic, I will gladly accept it with open arms. Hello readers! Today’s post is going to be short and sweet because … well, to put it bluntly, I am majorly under the weather. Fever last night and through the night, stomach doing more flips than a circus acrobat, and other, less savory stuff.

So updates! I did manage to hit my quota last Friday despite being a little sick. And while I wouldn’t put it past that segment to need a little editing, overall it was a pretty kick-butt segment of [REDACTED] battling [REDACTED].
Welcome writers! Another Monday is upon us, and so it is time once more discuss writing in all its various forms and shapes. Or rather, a specific form and shape, as we don’t have time to discuss everything in a single installment of Being a Better Writer.
So I got some advice for my writing that actually is helpful. A friend of mine said that while the action scene in the first chapter was fine, it kind of dragged on too long. This is something that I fully understand. How I'll do things now is cut up actions scenes and cut to different scenes in the meantime, then get back to the action later. This will give the reader make everything much more well paced.
Just a heads up, there may be a skipped BaBW post in the coming weeks, as I work to get Colony ready for release. Scheduling, time in a day, and all that.

Hey hey hey, everyone.
On the 11th of September, we launched this Change of Pace contest with the hope that it’d stand out from other contests and promote a new opportunity to try out a different kind of writing challenge, and I personally very much hope that everyone found it engaging, interesting, and a good opportunity to learn new things.
I did, however, also promise prizes, which means I’ve got to announce winners.
Currently the chapter comes in at 10k. I thought about releasing it where it's at right now, but I think it needs at least one more scene after the one I'm currently on. My PPSEFF (Pre-reader Proofreader Sometimes Editor Friend Forever) said a couple things that made me think about the pacing, and I decided the story needs to be sped up a bit, so the next chapter will see things moving along faster than they have.
