Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Filly Forever (s07e06)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
Friendship is Magic has changed a lot. Characters have garnered new roles (student to princess, as one example), acquired new abilities, suffered loss (the Golden Oaks Library, the closest to an actual death in the show), and what every living being goes through:growing up.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Parental Glideance (s07e07)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
I'm torn on this one. There are a lot of admirable things about the episode, and I had fun watching it. But some portions were overplayed and the last third felt bungled, save for the very end.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Fluttershy Leans In (s07e05)

Note: this episode was leaked, so I watched it early in fear Hasbro would be more vigorous in taking down uploads. Hopefully they keep the uploads that appear this Saturday up. Also, I wanted extra time to finish another pony episode review, and plan on posting it this weekend as a bonus. Enjoy.

Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Rock Solid Friendship (s07e04)
By Obake
(SPOILERS!)
Coming off of last week's surprisingly good babysitting episode is a surprisingly bad Maud episode. I've always had a soft spot for Maud Pie, Pinkie's less-than-exuberant sister. Even if her schtick of being obsessed with rocks wears thin, episodes usually give her something to work with. Not much here, unfortunately.
First impressions review of MLP:FiM season 7, episodes 1 and 2
By Obake
(SPOILERS!)
On this special edition of first impression reviews, we have two regular episodes in one! Given the show's shaky track record with two-part specials, perhaps the staff chose toning down to make things easier. Given the upcoming movie, it would only make sense.
But the two episodes they start with are, uh...strange. How else to describe them? I'm going to break these into mini reviews.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Hard to Say Anything (s07e08)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
*Note: the video I watched the episode from had questionable sound quality, so I will reevaluate my criticisms on the songs when I find a better version.
This episode is a disaster, and not just because of the leery Justin Bieber pony.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Not Asking for Trouble (s07e10)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
There's not a lot of substance to this one, so a review will be brief. Pinkie visits the yaks during Yakslubert Fest (I hope I spelled that right), a sacred holiday. The day consist of smashing logs, swaying to music, and sleeping.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: School Daze (s08e01-02)
by Obake
I'm not exactly sure what message School Daze is attempting to get across. That western educational systems are outdated, and insufficient? I agree there plenty of problems with the current system, but the episode never conveys any real issue with how Equestrians handle it.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: The Mean Six (s08e13)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
While the Mane Six and Starlight head to a friendship retreat, Queen Chrysalis makes clones of our heroes, vowing to find and steal the Elements of Harmony.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Surf and/or Turf (s08e06)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
The map calls the Crusaders and Twilight to Mount Aris, where half of the seapony population now live as regular hippogriffs. The other half still live in Seaquestria.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: The Break Up Break Down (s08e10)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
This episode is a blend of good and bad, much like a love potion. Or is it love poison?
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Royal Problems (s07e10)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
Dear Princess Luna,
Today I watched a play titled Royal Problems. It depicts the time Starlight was sent to help solve a friendship problem between you and your sister. The play has received negative press from ponies who feel the premise sounded too far fetched. But I went in with an open mind.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Non-Complete Clause (s08e09)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
Non-Complete Clause is essentially a more annoying version of Fall Weather Friends. Where that episode succeeded, Clause fails. Maybe upon another watch I will find more to praise, but even so, it is the first bad episode of the season.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: It Isn't the Mane Thing About You (s07e19)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
It Isn't the Mane Thing About You is a strange case. Tonally, it feels like an episode from seasons 1 or 2, with a few modern era things thrown in. There's not much to say about it other than its mostly fine, save bad pacing.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Molt Down (s08e11)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
Since I have a full schedule this afternoon, I figure getting this review out early would be a good idea. Hence, I haven't had time to find a completed version of the episode, only the leaked version, which should suffice.
Friendship is Magic first impressions review: Horse Play (s08e07)
by Obake
(SPOILERS!)
Twilight gives Celestia the leading role in a play, despite Celestia's lack of acting talent. Already this comes off weird. Celestia's been a ruler for over a millennium, presumably having talked to thousands of crowds, yet can't get her voice right on stage. I'll give it a slight pass, but this season has had a lot of awkward story beats with characters.
