It is often remarked on how different fan fiction is from original fiction. There is definitely truth to these remarks; the amateur nature of fan fiction and the baggage of using an existing setting creates many differences.

Over time, however, I’ve noticed some similarities. One could say that some of these are reaching, or that they happen rarely, and that is not unreasonable. I thought it might be an interesting mental exercise regardless.

Minor musing here, but the daily view-count for all my stories doubled during Bronycon, coinciding with a number of upvotes and faves. It's a little perplexing to me, but sometimes I see fics that have gray voting bars. Even when someone gives an upvote or a downvote, it remains gray. At first, I thought it was because the author had made the stats invisible, but I couldn't find that option in any of my fic or account settings, so I ruled that out. Well... after what happened last time, I probably shouldn't be as hasty to declare that the issues with my timeline are over and done with... but this time, I really think they are. I have a problem. I'm a very imaginative, artistic person, however everything that catches my attention can completely throw me off what I was working on. I must have eight stories that never grew past the first two pages, all of which could have been good works of fiction if I could just have focused better. Even now, I've considered writing a story simply by playing a card game and hearing a good song, yet probably won't due to my record of abandoning projects that barely even start.

Did you know that Windows doesn't always run the program you tell it to run? You can double-click on an executable and some other executable might be run instead.

I've learned recently that Microsoft intends to discontinue MSPaint for some inexplicable reason. It doesn't require any maintenance to keep; they could easily have abandoned all future development and left it as a relic amongst all the other relics cluttering up the code base. It would've gone on working for many years to come.

I spend the better part of four months stumped on how I want to approach the current scene in chapter four of "Paranoid Pink".

Then tonight I just take another look at the chapter, and find myself writing more than I've done with the story in nearly the past six months.

But I won't complain, though. Progress is progress, and some is better than none at all.
