Grumping About Grumpy Jace · 12:52am May 31st, 2018
I don’t like Dominaria’s story.
As usual, my sleep rhythm is off by about three hours and I need to fill up my time before I hit the spot I'm ready to fall asleep. The topic today? Magic the Gathering, specifically the latest set to be released; Kamigawa Neon Dynasty.
So, a fun story from my weekly Magic night this monday.
I know you all are waiting for my next story.
I am writing a couple of stories now.
The one most likely to be published by me next is a crossover with characters from Magic The Gathering.
I am even crazy enough to attempt to create my own card block to go with it.
Spoiler alert.
I plan to include a romantic subplot with Twilight Sparkle and Jace Beleren.
Prompted by the amazing new charity promo set, I've designed some silver-bordered cards for the rest of the Mane 6, as well as Celestia. They should be most amusing:
Princess Celestia {4}{W}{W}
Legendary Creature – Alicorn
Flying
Activated abilities of artifacts can’t be activated.
{T}: Princess Celestia gives you some helpful advice. (Results may vary.)
She does nothing.
4/4
Applejack {4}(G}{G}
Legendary Creature – Pony
Friday Night Magic
In which son_of_heaven176 attends his first Friday Night Magic event, and has fun despite unfavorable match results.
Though I’ve been a nerd for almost forever, it’s only been relatively recently that I’ve gotten into Magic: The Gathering (MTG). My first exposure to MTG was joshscorcher’s Boros music video, featuring Sabaton’s “Gott Mit Uns”, but that was years ago.
Wizards of the Coast recently started releasing albums with each new Magic set, and by "recently," I mean the latest one is the second time they've done so. It's actually quite good. You can listen to the whole thing on YouTube here. But there's one track I want to highlight in particular, and it is for pony-related reasons.
There are few things more frustrating than a glancing blow from inspiration; just enough for a title, but not where to take it. Below are two examples.
Word of warning, this one's going to be silly and about card games.
Back in 1999, Magic: the Gathering tried to appeal to the Chinese market with an introductory set based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
I promise I'm going somewhere with this.
Random thought, but in a world where Duel Monsters is real...
Okay, that blog title might be a bit dramatic. Still, I feel I have been denied vital information. To wit, there is a Friendship is Magic: the Gathering panel at BABSCon. It's literally called Friendship is Magic: the Gathering.
No one told me.
Just a little pony-themed motivator for everyone, courtesy of the Magic: the Gathering site.
(Ormendahl is an archdemon. His color scheme would go great with Sombra. And yes, there's a joke to be made about humans getting a special boost out of Equestrian magic.)
One last round of this for me. For now, anyway. This is a rather fun exercise after all.
I've had a series of Rarity moments lately. Inspiration struck me right between the eyes, and I got the ideas out as quickly as I could before they took their leave. Manufactured accents may or may not have been involved.
The end results are twofold: Expect an amusing story in short order and a special edition card blog right now.
Appropos of nothing, I thought I'd throw together some songs that give a basic sense of each guild of Ravnica. There is tangential pony content, but this is mostly card game-related fun. Feel free to offer some suggestions in the comments, and bear in mind that this not meant to be taken especially seriously.
Yup, this is still a thing. I do have two more planeswalkers to get through, after all. Let's begin with the mare who was red-white-black before Zurgo Helmsmasher made it cool.
This is something of an FiCG supplement, though there is something at the end for those not into the "Card Games" part. Read on for details (or just skip to the line of ponemojis at the end if you fall into the aforementioned camp.)
So apparently, FanOfMostEverything has something of a hobby of making pony themed Magic: The Gathering cards. And, since the show ended last year, he's been kind of hard-up for new pony content. So hard up, that he's been forced to scrape the bottom of the proverbial barrel, and now he's made up cards based on The Flash Sentry Papers!
