Quick little rant. · 11:48pm Oct 30th, 2017

Why is it that every Pentium 2 system I've worked with always has the same problems?

No matter what I've done, every Pentium 2/i686 based PC that I've worked with always seems to have a problem that ends up with lines upon lines of I/O errors when all I'm trying to do is boot a freakin' live CD that works with i586 machines.

Psst... · 9:09pm Nov 5th, 2017

Guess who's posting from a 300MHz Pentium 2??? :pinkiecrazy:

Suprisingly, 300MHz and 512mb of RAM is actually very usable as long as you're not trying to watch Youtube.

EDIT: BTW, I'm using a USB wifi dongle running at USB 1.1 speeds because I don't wanna use up the precious PCI slots for an ethernet card, and the only other networking card in the system is an 8-bit ISA US-Robotics modem.

I can't rully run Minecraft on a Pentium-era PC yet... · 11:47pm Nov 4th, 2017

But I can run it on a 300MHz Pentium 2!

Specifically, I ran Indev at a laggy 12-15 fps, and 1.5.2 at ~5-6 fps.

I suspect that the CPU is the bottleneck, 'cause Minecraft is much more CPU intensive than it is on the GPU.

Though, I do have a 400-something MHz Pentium 2 in storage that I pulled from a different computer...

Either way, the thing can barely play Youtube videos at 144p, and it actually surprisingly loads Fimfiction pretty quick.
