To: A Dear Friend -- From: A Silly Bugger · 2:21pm Oct 15th, 2016

"You know, this is my spot to do that."

Golden Retriever jumped, right near out of her skin, from where she had been standing looking out the crystal walls of Twilight's Castle in thought.

"I'm sorry, Dr Princess. I was just--" She blinked. Her brain just caught up past the interruption to what was actually said. "--your spot to do what?"

Of course I took it as an opportunity to read the whole collection of stories again. Who wouldn't?

Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen · 2:44am Oct 10th, 2018

I never plugged GhostOfHeraclitus' wonderful 500-word story, "Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen", which he posted in 2016. Probably because Ghost sneakily published it in horizon's Never the Final Word anthology.

I regret nothing. · 1:31am Oct 10th, 2015

So, Ghost and I were chatting and I mentioned how Sethisto dislikes stallion faces because he feels their noses look like trashcans. This is the result.

The door slammed open, crashing into a pile of cushions placed there for that purpose. People only ever entered Dotted's office in two ways. The cushions were there for the first, and for the second, there was a rather cunning array of traps and deadfalls.

"Dotty!"

A Sugar and Spice Retrospective, And Also a Tea Recipe · 10:00pm Aug 9th, 2018

In 5 or so years of writing, Sugar and Spice is both the longest and probably the best story I've managed to finish so far. If nothing else, it's absolutely a story that has the most things I like about it, which is particularly weird given that it's just... not the sort of story I tend to write. Side-character, non-Princess romance? OCs? Comedy?!

I know. I must have fallen ill, or something.

Galacon 2018: A Chronicle · 8:31pm Aug 3rd, 2018

So, I went to Galacon last weekend. It's my second-ever convention – my first being Bronycon 2014 – and hopefully the second of many to come.

Galacon was a fucking blast, to be frank. Or, rather, the Galacon attendees were a blast. The actual convention that we'd all gone there for was... well. I spent about 15 minutes in the convention centre getting my pass and a booklet, looked around at what the pony-people were peddling, and decided that it wasn't for me.

Paul's Thursday Reviews CVI · 10:03pm Feb 22nd, 2018

No review blog next week, folks. I’m on break.

Finally getting around to watching Season 7, and I noticed something that mildly annoys me. Has anyone else noticed that the CMC appear to be getting a little bigger? I first noticed this with Sweetie Belle, who is now tall enough to almost match Rarity in height. I thought she was smaller than that in Season 1.

Read It Now Reviews #51 – The First Rain of Spring, Any Other Business, The Problem with Pegasi, Hey Jealousy, babytails · 10:33pm Sep 8th, 2015

I hope you all had a good Labor Day weekend! Sorry for the relative dearth of reviews lately; I’ve been trying to get some stuff written, as well as review stories for the Writeoff. But I’ve been cheating on my writeoff reviews with reading some other stories as well, either recommended to me or written by folks that I follow.

Today’s stories:

The First Rain of Spring by CalmNQuiet
Any Other Business? by Ghost of Heraclitus

So I've been reading pony fanfiction for over four years now. That's... about a quarter of my natural life.

Fuck, I've wasted my life the best years of my youth gone I don't even-

Okay, that out of the way.

I'd like to make a compilation of some of the authors that made me want to be the author I have not yet become.

Read It Now Reviews #75 – Songs Like Snow, Making an Old Lady Cry (and other hazards of espionage), Constants, True Ascension, Growing Pains · 8:37pm Mar 21st, 2016

I’ve been a bit lax of late on reading new stories as they go up on FIMFiction; the first story in this set went up on my birthday, more than two weeks ago, and I think the latest was up several days ago. Still, better late than never, right?

Though maybe not in something called read it now. Apparently this is more read it nowish.

Still, this started out as such, so a Read It Now it shall remain!

Today’s stories:

Songs Like Snow by Ghost of Heraclitus

Recommended Story Reviews #9 – The Lavender Letter, Hoofprints, Fluttershy Comes Out of the Closet, Never So Far Away, Strange Bedfillies (Or: Nopony Loves Twilight Sparkle) · 10:37pm Mar 18th, 2016

In an attempt to re-energize my writing, I re-read a bunch of excellent stories in the last few days. But of course, it would be terrible for me to keep these to myself; while many of these are fandom classics, and others should be, if you somehow haven’t read them, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Hoofprints is perhaps one of my favorite pieces of writing on the site, and it is a pity it is hidden away in a short story collection; much like

At one point, I was hoping to get at least one set of recommended story reviews done per month, meaning it would only take me, oh, a couple years to finish reviewing all the stories I would recommend or highly recommend but read before I started writing reviews.

It has been a bit slower than that. Still, I do hope you folks enjoy these.

The funny thing about procrastination is that sometimes it ends up wrapping back around into productivity.

It’d be nice if I could be productive in the directions that I aimed, but at least I’m getting something done.

Today includes a few stories from the RCL, as well as a couple stories that I previously read that didn’t quite merit a recommendation, along with a final story – one that I’ve put off reading since the Outside Insight contest all the way back in 2014.

I’m just about done reading the stories for the last Writeoff competition, but in the meanwhile, I thought I’d throw another batch of new stories at you folks, especially in the light of commenting to someone else about how this helps improve feature box quality. You know how much power we reviewers wield!

Not very much.

Still, some of these were indeed worth reading.

The stories I read today:

Wassail, Wassail! by Skywriter
