That blog about what not to do to tea has become my most-viewed one since I announced the winners of the Villain Exchange Contest. I find that strangely hilarious.

In any case, have some fic recs:

Bubbling Fics · 11:08pm May 29th, 2018

I first came across Bubble Butt with their story I just wanted to go to Equestria!, which may be the only example of a "human in Equestria Girls" story on the site. (That is to say, a story where a more conventionally colored person finds themself in the vicinity of Canterlot High. Feel free to correct me on the superlative.)

Do you enjoy existential mysteries? Background humans? Morally ambiguous, enigmatic, plot catalyzing lovebugs? If yes to any of these, you're going to like The Fishbowl, Shrink Laureate's labor of love that's been years in the making. Going by what I've seen thus far, it's been worth the wait.

Speaking from experience, recursive fanworks are some of the most flattering forms of feedback one can receive. If you're fishing for these high compliments, here are two anthologies where you can cast your reel.

It's always nice to find a promising new author. RangerOfRhudaur is putting together some great EqG fics with magic resurging into the world at a terrifying rate. Those familiar with my own work will likely understand why that caught my interest. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but Nyronus put up a wonderfully insightful blog this morning on writing, writing advice, and the folly of blind adherence to conventional wisdom. Anyone who has even considered putting a story out there for others to see should give it a look.

Even at this late stage in the fandom, it's always nice to see up-and-comers. The problem is finding them. i call this the "Redwood Problem." It's easy to notice the big names go, but spotting them as they arrive? Not so much.

I think we have a sprout.

Contest Aristocrat · 9:47pm Apr 11th, 2018

A British Gentleman has proposed a series of writing prompts that are equal parts tricky and rare in ponyfic. This first prompt's a doozy: Second-person Human in Equestria with a female perspective character. Frankly, I've got nothing, but if you're inspired, details can be found here.

Ficborn Horror · 10:20pm Apr 9th, 2019

If you're interested in writing horror stories, you'll want to check out RockstarRaccoon's Nightmare Night in April contest. They're accepting horror stories written this year even if they were written prior to the contest announcement, so even if you don't have any ideas right now, you might still be able to enter. Have fun terrorizing the neighborhood! :pinkiecrazy:

Specifically, Tumbleweed's Springtime Sequel Slash Sandbox Switcheroo, a contest that only opened about fifteen minutes ago. It's elegant in its simplicity: After signups close, each participant will be given a random other participant. Then you write a story based on one of that person's stories. Come check it out; this promises to be a lot of fun!

GMBlackjack may have one of the lowest follower to word count ratios on the site, but darn if they don't keep plugging away and making fascinating, engrossing stories. Perhaps the most notable is Songs of the Spheres, a tale of the founding of an Equestrian multiversal civilization that incorporates so many IPs, AUs, and OCs, it makes Infinity War look about as ambitious as a PB&J.

McPoodle is one of the site's most dedicated researchers, with a commitment to comprehensiveness and accuracy matched only by the thoroughness of his cited sources in his afterword chapters. I bring him up because his latest work, On Getting to the Bottom of This "Equestrian" Business, is a shining example of that dedication to research.

Mystic Family · 3:40am Feb 16th, 2016

Near to my heart is the topic of Scootaloo's family. The poor filly suffers from Shrödinger's Family Tree; because we have next to no data on her home situation—we didn't even know if she had a home until Season 4!—it's entirely up to the author's interpretation. I like to think she has two loving (and living) parents, one of whom is Dizzy Twister, but that's sadly far from the norm for her.
