FoME Thinks Too Much: Habitat and Earth Pony Magic · 6:50pm May 24th, 2016

Earth pony magic is the most subtle, most poorly defined part of equine thaumobiology, which is part of why I find it so fascinating. These ideas stemmed from the tribe’s namesake, earth. As anyone who’s watched Avatar knows, earth comes in a variety of forms. Suppose earth pony magic did as well. Suppose there was an adaptational aspect to it, with the magic responding to the environment and working to help the pony thrive there. What would result from that?

FoME Thinks Too Much: Chromelanin · 4:45pm Dec 9th, 2014

Chromelanin is a pigment protein that only occurs in sufficiently magical environments. Its structure is nearly identical to brown eumelanin. The difference lies in the complex isotopes* that compose the molecule, including carbon-11+i and oxygen-14+2i. This partially magical structure allows the molecule to reflect virtually any color.

FoME Thinks Too Much: This is Your Brain on Magic · 12:08am Jul 12th, 2017

As you may hve gathered from a few of my stories, the topic of magic in the world of technicolor stick people fascinates me. The topic leads to many questions, from the nature of cutie marks in that world to how Pinkie Pie functioned before being endowed with horse powers.

FoME Thinks Too Much: All of These Ponies are Crazy · 7:46pm Feb 15th, 2020

If you've read Time Enough for Friendship, you've seen a timeline where Discord got paroled from petrification before the changeling invasion and, when Fluttershy asked him to help, shared his power with her to help her see the beauty of the chaos, creating the draconequus Serendipity.

So what would the other Mane 6 be?

FoME Thinks Too Much: Holidays · 10:24pm Nov 11th, 2017

Been a while since one of these, but I had the idea and I plan on running with it, especially since this is one aspect of my headcanon that’s more or less managed to survive both the show and my own failure to write down background ideas outside of story notes. Today I’ll be discussing everything I derived from major pony holidays, leading up to what I feel will be a very interesting question that I don’t think anyone has posed as of yet.

FoME Thinks Too Much: Pony Sexology and the Linseed Scale · 5:36pm Feb 12th, 2015

Well, since Bad Horse didn’t provide any story prompts today, it’s time for something based on popular demand (by which I mean it edged out another blog by a vote.) Here’s my take on the matter of pony sexuality and the bizarre multidimensional creature known as the Linseed Scale. I hope you like it, because this is probably the closest I’m ever going to come to writing clop.

Note that there are footnotes, so you may want to open the blog in two tabs and scroll down in one.

FoME Thinks Too Much: The Bene Sediment · 2:22pm May 4th, 2020

To most of Equestria, the Bene Sediment are just one more eccentricity in the culture of rock farmers, a peculiar priesthood that propitiates the spirits of metals and minerals to provide bountiful harvests. And for most ponies, their knowledge of them, if they’ve even heard of them, ends there.

FoME Thinks Too Much: The Founders' Legacies · 12:57pm Sep 8th, 2018

Just a random bit of cultural worldbuilding looking for a home. Namely, what cultural impact the Founders of Equestria have had on their nation beyond starring in the annual not-Christmas pageant. (For the purposes of this blog, we’re putting aside the chronological ambiguity created by the Pillars. Star Swirl’s almost as bad as Starlight and Discord when it comes to muddying the temporal waters. And yes, I know some of this comes pre-Jossed. C’est la vie.)

FoME Thinks Too Much: Chromaharmonics · 12:23pm Mar 13th, 2016

This is a blog I've been meaning to write for quite some time, as you may have gathered from the story tag. It's an explanation for my choices when associating the Elements of Harmony with the colors of card game magic. If you have no interest in me connecting Equestrian thaumology and Magic color philosophy (or how my thought process generally runs when planning a crossover,) then I'll see you next week. Everyone else, read on as I plumb new depths of nerdery.

I’d say that this blog won’t be political, but that isn’t strictly true. It is, however, the fun kind of political. Namely, the one that doesn’t actually express opinions and is just thinking too much about Equestria through the implications of pop culture references.

FoME Thinks Too Much: The Royal Arsenal · 5:33pm Sep 20th, 2020

Ideally, all conflicts Equestria faces can be solved through the careful application of diplomacy and rainbow lasers. But even in magical lands of pastel ponies, ideals can fall short of reality. Enter the Royal Arsenal.
