Grammer a Week 16: Oxford Commas · 3:01am Mar 3rd, 2016

This is Grammer a Week, the periodic blog program-thing where I soapbox about a grammar subject I find interesting. You might, too! This week's installment is about the Oxford comma. Also known as the serial comma, the Oxford comma is a subject of intense debate among grammarists. Not as vicious as, perhaps, the debate about single vs. double spacing, but it's still something you'll see people screaming

Apparently, a court case was just decided based on the omission of an Oxford comma. Several ironies follow.

Grammer a Week 1: Comma Splices · 10:46pm Jan 23rd, 2015

This is Grammer a Week, the periodic blog program-thing where I address a frequently broken grammar rule and tell you how to fix it. This week's installment is about the comma splice, and it's among the most pervasive errors I see on FiMFiction.

Making a comma splice is kind of like switching its cutie mark à la Magical Mystery Cure; you're forcing the comma into a role that it was never meant to play in. Stop making the comma sad and learn how to use it properly! :fluttercry:

Grammer a Week 7: Semicolons · 10:28pm Mar 13th, 2015

This is Grammer a Week, the periodic blog program-thing where I address a frequently broken grammar rule and tell you how to fix it. This week's installment is about the semicolon. You know that keyboard key under your right pinky finger? Yeah, the one that you never seem to use? That's the semicolon key. It's probably the most under-used key on the home row. It really shouldn't be there, but now that it is, might as well figure out how to use it, right?

Grammer a Week 19: Short Answer Section · 7:07pm Apr 10th, 2016

This is Grammer a Week, the periodic blog program-thing where I soapbox about a grammar subject I find interesting. You might, too! This week's installment is a little different; as a sort of poor "apology" for not posting anything grammar-related for the last few weeks, here's a three-for-one! I'll be covering the predicate nominative, conjunctive adverb, and apostrophe use.

Apple Bloom tries to connect with her Equestrian sort-of brother in the middle of a multiversal expo.

Per the blog title, I'm signal-boosting a friend's story. I left a long, essay-style comment on the fic itself, but to sum up the strongest aspect: EqG Apple Bloom and pony Big Macintosh prove that certain bonds transcend dimensions.

Give it a read if you enjoy wholesome, slice-of-life stories stuffed with characters. The human CMC have good group rapport, and pony Big Mac is endearingly stoic.

Grammer a Week 18: Parenthetical Phrases · 9:46pm Mar 17th, 2016

This is Grammer a Week, the periodic blog program-thing where I soapbox about a grammar subject I find interesting. You might, too! This week's installment is about the parenthetical phrase. Chances are you've used this construction before. You might know it as an aside or an interruption in thought. Past merely defining it, this post will also be about the subtleties of the parenthetical phrase.

Macario used to stop by Mang Fermin's stall for a quick bite on the way to work. Fermin has since passed away. In his place, another vendor sells snacks at the corner. He's also out of this world, but that shouldn't matter much.

Art Related Comic Quitting. · 9:19pm Aug 5th, 2017

I'm not sure where to put this but...

I'm probably going to stop making episode comics for every episode (since Daring Don't, I think?).
(Honestly, I sort of blame the leaks. There were just so many. I don't know how to explain how this affects exactly though.)

I'll probably say something like this on the next purely Pony art piece I make too.

I'm just not feeling it anymore.

Hopefully, however, I'll still be able to do comics for some of them.

But for all your work, I am grateful – today was a very good day for pony fiction.

A Bunch of Stuff Worth Mentioning · 9:59pm Jun 30th, 2015

Hey, guys!

I'm still alive and breathing. That much is (as far as I can tell) true. Life's still busy, but it should clear up here soon, as this week is the last of my grad school. (:yay:) In the whole job hunting phase now, with just a few projects to finish up by Thursday, and it's hello Master's degree!

But enough about real life. Let's talk about some things in the pony world, cause that's what you're all here for, right?

Hey!

Just making the odd update to say I'm not dead, as is the norm for these things. Hope my fellow Americans had a good Labor Day and my fellow Non-Americans had a good regular day, laborious or otherwise.

Still working on Compatī. Finally found the inspiration to break down the writer's block that had me stuck there for the better part of the entire year. Up to chapter 48 now, and the end is in sight. I'll have more consistent update blogs for you as that becomes a reality.
