Reading book and real-world news... · 9:38pm Oct 5th, 2021

as I was reminded there are real people doing work behind our enterteinment:

guess this kind of voting might be more useful than high-end political voting (President of Country, etc)

now I am reading

Solid-Rarity the Trade Unionist? · 10:11pm Dec 3rd, 2019

Taking a brief diversion from talking about science communications stories. I have another pony fiction requirement. One of my amazing friends in my trade union branch sent me a customised brushable pony.

So, Britain is leaving the EU. · 7:54am Jun 24th, 2016

To which I can only say, thank God. For two reasons:

1. Maybe the talking heads here in Ireland will finally stop howling about how Ireland will explode if Britain leaves.

You okay, UK? · 3:09pm Jun 24th, 2016

A quick note on the first three tragedies. Firstly, it was the working classes who voted for us to leave because they were economically disregarded, and it is they who will suffer the most in the short term. They have merely swapped one distant and unreachable elite for another.

Police Unions · 11:03pm Apr 25th, 2021

It's in the Twitter feed again that The International Workers of the World, aka the IWW or ‘Wobblies’ , do not consider police unions as unions, and will not show solidarity with them. Thing is, they’re totally right, but apparently it's not being explained very well.

The reason behind this is that this is Union Pacific 4141 painted to honor George H W Bush and this is done out of respect for the former president of the USA though I wasn’t alive then. Plus I like the look of the locomotive

The mysterious radio station · 1:29pm May 15th, 2020

UVB-76, aka The Buzzer, started broadcasting in Russia since 1973. Home! · 2:12pm Jun 10th, 2017

I got home from Cincinnati, Ohio yesterday, and oh god am I sore. We were demoing two floors of a Credit Union, and it was not an easy job. It's not even finished, but I am. I did what I could, but my hands and feet are getting to the point where it's hard to walk and grip things. Not a good combination when you're helping lug around things that take six people just to pick up.

How to prevent Double-Late-For-Work Accidents. · 10:38am Jan 4th, 2022

I once worked my way up to management. Management sucks. I now have a UnionJob where I am part of the crew. As a manager, I learned that the almost universal policy of being able to fire employees who are more than 1 minute late 3 times in 28 days (20 workdays) exists just so that over half the workforce is fireable at all times. This makes cutting the workforce quickly easy.

As a manager, I decided on this policy:

The Friendship Problem between Britain and the European Union · 8:40pm May 26th, 2016

European politics is a subject which I have quite a lot to say about, but which I know most Fimfiction readers don’t care about quite as much about as I do. So I don’t blog too much about it, but given the importance of the coming referendum, it deserves a post.

My “Ponies After People” essay · 2:29pm Jun 22nd, 2019

With the disappearance of the United States federal government and state governments, all antitrust laws have disappeared as well. Imagine you are a greedy pony character that becomes a very wealthy robber baron in a new Gilded Age. This new Gilded Age creates a high concentration of wealth for the few, while creating an era of abject poverty and inequality for millions, along with many other problems.

It's been a good ride, y'all. But today, Articles 11 and 13 of the EU Copyright Directive passed with no amendments. We're likely about to see a massive purge of user-generated content if it even has a 'risk' of violating copyright due to the implementation of bots and algorithms meant to delete anything that 'could possibly' violate copyright in an attempt to keep the now-liable web platforms that host our content safe from lawsuits.

Song About Spread of Ideas, Fall of Soviet Union · 1:58am Jul 26th, 2017

"If you're strong, you can fly…"

The Soviets were strong... evil, but strong. You can build rockets if you want. You can leave this planet. You can win the space race or come in a respectable second. You’ll never be first to the moon with communism, though.

"You can reach the other side of the rainbow..."
