Evening, folks! I'm now a week into working on To Serve In Hell as part of NaNoWriMo. I'm a bit behind on target wordcount by date, but I feel good about what's been written thus far. Good enough in fact to bust out this old clunker:
Something something great again
I’m glad you asked!
Note the two lovely words on the right.
These last few weeks have been overwhelming, and not just from the busyness of the new house. In trying to make something of “a nu start” here, I've been diving head-on into some old anxieties, which is never entirely smooth.
I'm not sure how many times I repeated the phrase, "One chapter a day, every day, starting Halloween," during Ciderfest this past weekend. But Halloween is Wednesday.
That means To Serve In Hell is coming back in just 48 hours.
After years of hemming and hawing followed by months of total insanity, me and mine are finally done moving house. Naught remains but the twin eternities of opening boxes and waiting for the Internet to be hooked up. Until then, I'll be subsisting as best as possible on cellular data and whatever housewares I can find.
Well folks, it's been a heck of a June. Or as we're calling it around Coffee Central, month-where-Ireland-happened-then-suddenly-over. Like seriously, I keep thinking it's the 15th or something... but no, month's basically over. It took us 2+ weeks to get back into the swing of things. I'm running late on everything.
Which brings us to some good news and some bad news.
To Serve In Hell generated over 20,000 words of cut content, representing more than a fifth of its final length. Not all of it is fit for presentation. However, a few bits still strike me as memorable or interesting, and I'd like to take a moment to share a couple of them.
There are spoilers ahead... but at this point I figure most people who are going to read Hell have already done so. For anyone else, maybe this'll spark some interest?
As it turns out, our family will be traveling over much of the Thanksgiving week. And while I hate to leave people hanging... the truth is that I do, in fact, love a good cliffhanger. My hope is that you’ll feel Book 2 of To Serve In Hell ends with that.
So: updates will take one full week’s break due to the holiday. Look for Book 3 to begin with Chapter 20 on November 26th.
I know. "Again? Who cares! It's cut stuff from an old fic!"
I've realized something, though, as I've been gathering this up: I'm doing this for me. I'm laying something to rest. I'm letting go of a lingering sense of what might-have-been, which in its own way is a part of the story of what ended-up-being.
Maybe it's even the last part of the story.
As I mentioned last time: there's a mountain of cut content from To Serve In Hell, including some nuggets that I very much regretted having to take out. I've already shared a couple of those stronger moments with you, and discussed the thought process that lead to both adding and ultimately removing them.
October 31st is not just Halloween, but the day To Serve In Hell returns.
Basic facts:
From gun allegations to junior paleontologists, this was a biggish week at CoffeeMinion HQ. Get a few updates on stuff after the break.

I tagged this with To Serve In Hell. We'll get there in a minute. First let's talk Heavy Rock, which is about 18 hours away from hitting the auto-submit queue.

I'm running out of Hell puns, guys. How am I going to manage through the next 27 chapters of To Serve In Hell?
How many chapters, darling?
Just as a reminder, To Serve In Hell is back to updating monthly. And on 1/1, somepony new will be joining the cast:
Why is it so hard to find art of Nurse Redheart that isn't clop?
Guess what, folks? The next chapter of To Serve In Hell is... well, let's be honest, floundering a bit. But it's drafted, and I'm bringing in reinforcements to help whip it into shape for June 1st. One challenge is that it's very much a "middle" chapter, so it sets up stuff that doesn't really pay off yet. I fear I may have another couple of those coming as the story works its way through Canterlot. But to some extent I don't see a way around that... the
Guys, it's been a great 3 years, but all good things must come to an end. As of today I'm jumping ship for the Zig and Sharko fandom. Proper farewells after the break.
Something something, watching for the plot, something something
