Suspense Writing · 11:27am Aug 2nd, 2022

Yesterday I went out, immediately blinded and sunburnt, and I bought this, amidst three other uncoordinated paraphernalia (one of which will feature in the next blog post):

Haven’t read it yet, but it was held in high esteem (as most to-sells are by employees) so I thought I’d give it a go, and maybe learn a few things.

On Giving Criticism: "Possibility" and "Suspension of Disbelief" · 6:33pm Feb 16th, 2019

So recently, I took part in a... unnamed scifi Youtube channel's Discord Server contest and learned some key things about how to give a criticism on a author/artist/media creator's ideas. I'm happy to name them if you ask me in private, but the reason for not naming them in public on this post will become abundantly clear when I get into this.

writing on hold · 5:00am Oct 11th, 2022

One of my older brothers died last night. His health hadn't been the greatest, but he wasn't super fragile either. His death is a complete shock to everyone.

Writing anything is obviously on hold for now, but I wanted you all to know why.

I am functional, I'm dealing with things as best I can. The emotional part hasn't really sunk in yet. I do have supports. All I'm really asking for is understanding about delays in stories and perhaps some sympathy.

Thanks for being here.

Forever Inferno: Chapter Two Preview · 9:11pm Jul 27th, 2018

The sledgehammer slammed into the concrete wall, a new hole in its surface. The other workers had long since gone home, leaving Jazzmania all by her lonesome. Not that she cared. She'd been at it for hours, effortlessly driving the large hammer into the wall. She wasn’t getting paid extra for this but then again, she didn’t care.

On the Fourth Wall · 1:09pm Sep 1st, 2017

When a character attempts to break the fourth wall, it may disturb a suspension of disbelief. A reader may not want to participate in the story as a character. Or the world in the reader’s mind is too different from the world in the writer's mind.

It may be especially disturbing if the author switches to the second person narration.

Of course, sometimes and for some genres it may work.

Being a Better Writer: Balancing Readers' Suspension of Disbelief · 1:02am Dec 13th, 2016

"Go! Go! Go!" Natalie didn't need to be told twice. With the clock ticking, the building was only minutes from coming apart in a blast that would level half the block. If she could get away before then, she had a chance, but if not ...

"Go!" the voice in her ear shouted once more.

"I'm going!" she snapped, crouching by the body of the colonel and retrieving his sidearm. Some of his thugs could still be standing between her and the exit.

Planning a Scene for the Far Future · 8:28pm Nov 6th, 2021

Me, reading the comments on Dawn of a New Age in the first few chapters:

Me, when I read the future comments for a certain unreleased, unfinished chapter towards the end of the story:

I have one chapter of a double feature complete and ready to publish! Yay! Finally! But...much like chapter 6 and 7, it's critical that it be paired with the chapter that comes after. There's a good reason for this. So, I hope everyone following the
