Interesting thoughts · 7:22pm Feb 12th, 2018

So having come back to FIM I decided to start reading through all of my old material, looking through crashed stories I've rewritten 6 times and some where I just hit a dead end. I also began reading through my own blogs as well as comments from long past. It was a very...enlightening experience. I noticed a few trends in my writing which I found to be a huge flaw throughout every draft and story I've created. I only took a concept, and tried to make a strong introduction and a strong ending

Various story ideas · 4:15pm Jan 31st, 2016

Just a blog to help me organize my thoughts on some possible future projects.

1. A LyraBon story. The S.M.i.l.e. stroy idea from previous blog most likely.
2. a Robot Mare story. Would probably be a part of the S.M.I.L.E. story
3. A Luna/Tantabus romance story, where Luna needs to be punished.
4. Twilight Foalcon story. Because she was a bit aggressive to foal Rainbow Dash.
5. Continue working on one of the current stories that have been published

Drinking to Vanity Without Much Sanity · 10:31pm Jan 17th, 2019

A short informal essay on the issue of drinking a little too much, moderate pain and minuscule reward, and pondering why someone would keep doing such an act. A bit of a character study; a bit of why we should trust in our feelings.

Find out more below the break.

Are My Critiques Too Negative? · 8:23am Jan 10th, 2020

I often mention—unprompted and at length—that self-reflection is crucial for personal growth. And not merely growth as a writer, but growth as a person. I have made many adjustments to my review formula over the years. But has that made things better? Or has it merely masked an issue that still persists?

Why I wrote Troubled Griffs · 5:47am Feb 7th, 2021

I did promise a blog about Troubled Griffs.

So, here goes.

Troubled Griffs was originally written for the basic contest I hosted in Quills and Sofas, with the prompt "Just breathe, we'll be okay". Even before the contest launched, I had a vision in my head that involved Gallus discovering that he was polyamorous and going to Trixie in order to cope with the feelings. They'd talk and Gallus would eventually come to terms with his sexuality.

"Daddy's Girl" - To Fic or Nor To Fic · 4:59am May 8th, 2016

Years ago I read a story on this site by an author I don't remember that has long since been removed. It left an everlasting impression on me. It was a story that I wanted to re-tell in my own words.

It was more of a clopfic but the longer I spent trying to recall all that it entailed the more I saw potential for something bigger. It was most likely removed for containing underaged humans in sexual situations and that simple fact gave me pause.

Open Critique/Request: What Are the Biggest Strengths and Weaknesses in cleverpun's Writing? · 9:00am Jul 19th, 2019

I often make references to the idea that writing is a constant quest for self-improvement. It requires self-reflection and self-critique. But there is a limit to this. After a certain point, self-reflection and self-critique always suffer from a lack of perspective. There's a reason you get reviewed annually at most jobs.

reflection 🪞 · 3:11am Dec 12th, 2023

2023 is almost over.

Quite a few things have happened.

I got a new job and my mental health has improved since then.

I've been creating again after over a year of nothing. I'm hoping to sell at a con just to say I tried.

I also got engaged.

I've felt like a failure, merely existing. I hated it. Feeling the way I did absolutely sucked. Now I'm slowly finding myself again. I'm doing a little better now.

I'm thankful I'm still alive.

TL;DR 1: Pay attention when thinking about the opposite of a word. Is it really the opposite, or is it merely the absence of the thing itself?

TL;DR 2: Chinchillax gets introspective using charts.

My First Collab: What I learned and Lessons for Next Time · 11:27pm Nov 29th, 2017

Well, the collab I cobbled together is finally fully posted. I want to say thank you to everyone who participated; thanks not just for participating, for putting up with my blunt and occasionally obtuse criticisms, but also for sticking it through and finishing it. I never expected the response I got, and I think that, together, we made a story greater than a single author could have.

You Know What's Fun? · 2:48am Mar 21st, 2021

Checking this site for story updates and seeing, out of the blue, previously non-extremist authors calling for political violence on their blogs. Oh wait, that's the opposite of fun. Apparently violent rhetoric is okay if it's lightly veiled in metaphor. I have half a mind to write a metaphorical tale insinuating violence against the people who are doing this to test if it works both ways... but that would require the dishonesty of pretending I promote violence. It so happens that morality is

New fic is released: "Hero" · 10:11pm Oct 20th, 2019

I have written a story for Lemon Crumble! The Season 9 Finale and her unexpected speaking role and heroic deed have overjoyed me and soon after I've seen the Finale for the first time, before I could finally find sleep, I had this idea for a Lemon Crumble fic and knew I had to write this.
