I get it, there are stories where ponies are absolute jerks with insane magical power. Who abuse it over puny humans. But what do you think of ponies holding back and being actually gentle? They have the ability to easily wipe out humanity, but they simply don't do it because they actually have compassion and empathy.

Would overpowered ponies become more acceptable then?

The four alicorns (Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Princess Cadence, Princess Twilight) power's combined into one by Princess Twilight was enough to equally match Tirek, who had taken the power of all the ponies of Equestria and Discord's power.

Consider, even if you divide their power even into quarters. Each of the alicorns are still insanely powerful, four just 4 of them combined would give Tirek a hard time. That's a pretty terrifying power level.

I love to do it. I think they need some weakness, even if they are overpowered ponies.

My views on OP ponies?

I personally don't mind the ponies being overpowered, as long as they behave in character in such a fan fiction.

Say for example Princess Celestia power's are being exaggerated far beyond the canon show's limit. But if Celestia is still the same pony from the show, loveable and kind and wouldn't dream of sentencing an entire sapient species into oblivion, then I have no real problem with her.

Normal Pony. As in they could die pretty easily. They still have magic and all. But can still bleed and die just like a living creature. Belly rubs is a good way of making them harmless.

OP Pony. Live forever, immune to bullets and nukes. However, their one weakness is bully rubs.

You know I made a series of silly Anon vs. X Stories? As in, I have a normal human (no real superpowers) taking on some godlike beings, (OP Ponies/alicorns/etc) who could easily kill him, yet somehow winning by just giving them a nice petting, or giving them a lovely belly rub, or tender ear scratch. The OP being left in the false sense of security, before Anon's deadly hands give them tender affection. His hands often disables their powers and leaves them helpless, and makes them nonhostile.
