Languages in my stories (WIP) · 6:54pm May 24th, 2016

I will usually refer to languages by the race which speaks them, but I figured that a general key would be helpful so new readers aren't horribly confused.
Everyone is speaking English, or Equish, as I shall refer to it. This doesn't apply to The Fall of Nocturnia, in which everyone is speaking Latin.

RARITY IS NOT A SEAMSTRESS.

I'm serious, folks, she's not. A seamstress only sews and repairs seams, maybe takes up a hem here and there; that's it.

Rarity is a tailor. A tailor actually measures, designs and creates from whole cloth. Men's and women's clothing, both.

If you can't bring yourself to call her a tailor, then call her a modiste. That's actually closer to what she is anyway, since it indicates an artistic component. Also, it sounds very fancy.

Not to mention I have to learn other Indonesian Major language, such as : Javanese, Sundanese, Betawi.

Koyaanisqatsi · 6:16pm Apr 22nd, 2020

According to Hopi Dictionary: Hopìikwa Lavàytutuveni, the Hopi word koyaanisqatsi (Hopi pronunciation: [kojɑːnisˈkɑtsi]) is defined as "life of moral corruption and turmoil" or "life out of balance". The prefix koyaanis– means "corrupted" or "chaotic", and the word qatsi means "life" or "existence", literally translating koyaanisqatsi as "chaotic life". The film also defines the word as "crazy life", "life in turmoil", "life disintegrating", and "a state of life that calls for another way of

A Polite Reminder For the Grammar Nazis Amongst us · 3:43pm Oct 28th, 2015

The TLDR of this is English changes over time, and is a diversified language with may distinct dialects. You should check to see what English dialect a piece is written in before saying "I didn't eat no dinner." is wrong, because in several English dialects, that is infact the correct way to convay that information, and "I didn't eat any dinner." would be wrong. Isn't language fun?

Change “Equus” to a language family / Change name of “Earth” in pony mythology · 9:46am Jun 2nd, 2016

[Repost from this old forum post so that I don't have to keep finding it in my favorite's folder]
This thread is a two part question.
1. Why not have “Equus” be the name of a language family, like how Romantic languages include Spanish and French? Not the name of the planet.

Reader Poll - Romanji vs katakana · 12:07pm Dec 23rd, 2015

EDIT: Nevermind. I have been informed that if a reader is not using a unicode complaint platform that using Japanese symbols means they will not be able to see them. This means that people using their phones or ereaders likely wont see Japanese text. Thus, I will be using romanji. I apologize for any translation headaches.
