Writing Shameless HIE · 8:01am Apr 14th, 2021

Does anyone think writing cliches and not caring sometimes is quite fun when making HIE stories? I find myself not caring a lot of the time. I am not trying to write some epic story like LOTR, just comedy smut. I found writing shameless, cheesy HIE fun. It's not a realistic scenario, sure, but fun.

Take my story Super Secret Petting as a perfect example of a trashy HIE story. Little to no build up to the romance. Just plain smut really.

You know what I noticed in most Human-In-Equestria stories? · 11:06pm Jun 25th, 2015

The human always seems to be:
A very edgy person where the tiniest thing will set him off.
The human always acts like they can do whatever they want without any consequences.
The human sounds like a rebellious teenage trying to fit into high school freshman.
He loves to use vulgar language to make him sound cool.
He is always being given the "VIP" treatment from the Princess.

So Sick of Humans... · 11:40pm Jun 16th, 2015

This blog post will be more than a little bit ranting, so please be advised. If you're a big HiE ("Human in Equestria") fan, you might want to skip this. Not that I have terribly many followers right now who might read it anyway, but what the heck, I feel the need to rant to get my creative juices flowing today. :twilightsheepish: Here goes...

That time when Anonpencil did a cliché · 5:58pm Oct 9th, 2015

The most recent part of When They Come is easily the most disappointing for me. The big reveal, the shocking revelation...is nowadays so fucking boring and overused. Super. Super. Disappointing.

Patterns and Repetitiveness · 11:18am May 7th, 2018

Sometimes I find a piece of fanfiction where an author introduces a new factor to an existing setting. For example, a new element of harmony. Then this new factors change the chain of events. But often authors prefer to stick to known events too much, even when the new factors can prevent some canon events from happening and create brand new events instead. So to stick to canon events new characters suddenly become dumb, lose powers and can't do anything. What a shame.

Two new factors:

Another eye-opener · 12:57pm Mar 20th, 2023

Yesterday, I listened to a preaching from an LGBTQ+-affirming church via Facebook livestream. One of the things that the pastor said is something that I agree with. That there are Evangelical theological bullshit statements that one shouldn't say to those who are in pain and suffering.

Those statements include:
"God has a plan"
"God has a reason"
"God is in control"
"It is God's doing"
"It is a sign from God"
"God is punishing you"

HEY GANG, WHATTUP!

So...clopfics.

Hey, HEY! *stands at the door, holding a shotgun* Nobody's leaving yet! Y'all sit your asses back down! You saw the title and still came here, now you're in it for the long haul and have nobody to blame but yourself!

Let’s Discuss Clichés: Tear-Stained Pages · 1:09am Nov 3rd, 2015

Today, I’d like to present a new (possibly recurring) blog series. I was reading a college's literary magazine today. While most of the entries were aggressively mediocre, one particular phrase in one particular story stuck out to me. "I could still make out the tear stains on my mom's letter pages." What better catalyst for discussion than a cliché?

Told ya so... S9E3 · 2:25pm Apr 15th, 2019

And the Tree's back.

I told you it'd be back at the end of this episode. I know hack kiddie show writing, and I know the direction it ALWAYS goes. They CANNOT permit tension to last for long. The writers of the show are incapable of telling any type of more sweeping dramatic arc. That's all there is to it.

They should have just quit with the Big Bads, since they just keep handling them more poorly with every passing season, and stuck to slice of life world-building.

No update for A Reticent Motherhood tonight · 3:25am Oct 8th, 2021

Hey momlestia fans, there is no update for tonight. Last week-and-a-half have been a bit rough on me and I didn't make any progress on the story. In addition to that, I'll be visiting family abroad soon and I won't have an update for about a month.

C'est la vie.

My number one least favorite cliche · 6:44am Aug 5th, 2020

Out of the cliches, my absolutely least-favorite cliches and one of my personal pet peeve would be Damsel in Distress.

The reason why I’m not big fan of that cliche is because all they do is get themselves kidnapped by a bad guy so in order to make hero look good.

Equestrian Components, Zebrican Components - All Made In Griffonstone! · 1:49am Jun 10th, 2016

In today's writing decisions, evidently what this equestrian space program needs is a hard-drinking chemical engineer from Glorious People's Sovyet of Stalliongrad.

'Cause you can't go to space without appropriate accents and excessively dangerous liquid fuel, now can you?

Being a Better Writer: Subverting Tropes · 9:55pm Apr 24th, 2018

Something you’ll often hear when picking up reviews or word-of-mouth for new books that happen to be particularly praiseworthy is that something is “fresh” or “clever.” Maybe that it “does something new with the genre” or that it’s managed to put a “new twist on old ideas.”

Story Idea · 11:29pm Aug 21st, 2017

I'm currently trying to come up with a loose plot for an utterly OP, completely insane and evil Twilight story where she gets found torturing and killing her friends, and barely escaping Celestia and Luna with her life, goes around finding items of great power. Not limited to solely items of Dark Magic either. Mastering every type and branch of magic, she comes back with an army of skeletons, Griffons, and Dragons, big fight scene, a "happy" ending where she wins and, being immortal, will

Let’s Discuss Clichés: Give the Main Character Your Powers · 5:07am Feb 2nd, 2016

Today, I’d like to discuss a cliché that is very common in children’s media, and actually shows up in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic a few times. The irony is that, even as a child, I recognized and disliked this particular cliché. In particular, I remember it from both Dragonball Z and Digimon Frontier, among others. Captain Planet even built its entire premise around this cliché (well, that and being preachy, but let’s not get sidetracked).

Let’s Discuss Clichés: All Just a Dream · 7:56am Jun 13th, 2016

Today's discussion is about a very old cliche. It is so ubiquitous that I'm many of you have encountered it in multiple places before. Just because it is commonplace, however, doesn't mean that we can't examine it and try to do better.
