Brexit... · 2:37pm Jun 24th, 2016

This morning saw a new record for the number of expletives on my Facebook feed. Among the gentler language used to describe the current situation were phrases like 'shot in the head'

To my international friends, especially Britons living in other European countries, and citizens of other EU states living in Britain, I am sorry. We tried.

IN WHICH I give my opinion on something I know very little about

(If I wasn't supposed to stick my nose into things I don't understand, why did God make it so big?)

I didn't know what "Brexit" was until after the vote. I saw it in Google search results and guessed from context that it was a right-wing blog.

#Brexit · 7:30pm Jun 24th, 2016

Cross-posted to my blog on Hubpages, with some edits made.

I am a democrat [proponent of democracy] because I believe in the Fall of Man.

I think most people are democrats for the opposite reason. A great deal of democratic enthusiasm descends from the ideas of people like Rousseau, who believed in democracy because they thought mankind so wise and good that every one deserved a share in the government.

Turns out I'm Irish · 11:36pm Sep 19th, 2017

Got home from the Czech Republic to find this had arrived. I now serve two masters. This means, when Brexit finally flushes Britain for good, I get to work in a country that still has an economy and some human rights.

So, Britain is leaving the EU. · 7:54am Jun 24th, 2016

To which I can only say, thank God. For two reasons:

1. Maybe the talking heads here in Ireland will finally stop howling about how Ireland will explode if Britain leaves.

You okay, UK? · 3:09pm Jun 24th, 2016

A quick note on the first three tragedies. Firstly, it was the working classes who voted for us to leave because they were economically disregarded, and it is they who will suffer the most in the short term. They have merely swapped one distant and unreachable elite for another.

End of Brexit Season 2 · 9:34am Oct 18th, 2019

Once again the UK is just weeks from crashing out of the European Union. Back in March, we took to the streets and it ended up being postponed and Theresa May was defeated. Now we have an even bigger villain of a Prime Minister with an even more evil plan, while the opposition parties squabble with each other instead of working together.

Preparing for the Apocalypse · 11:47pm Mar 10th, 2019

There are now less than twenty days until Britain will leave the European Union. There is no agreement between the UK and EU as to how this will happen, or even any agreement among British politicians about what sort of agreement they want. There is some agreement that the deal Prime Minister Theresa May has negotiated, which is not so much a deal as an agreement to agree all the details later, is not acceptable. Remainers hate it as it will cut us off from Europe. Leavers hate it as it looks

Put It To The People March London Tomorrow · 4:59pm Mar 22nd, 2019

If British politics were an Equestria Girls film, we would now be at the scene where the Prime Minister has transformed into a megalomaniac winged demon, and is now hovering above the Palace of Westminster, sending out shots of dark magic while cackling with laughter, yet frustrated with people’s efforts to thwart her evil plans.

The votes are in and we've got a new Prime Minister in the UK... · 3:26pm Jul 24th, 2019

So, not one for politics, but it was announced yesterday that Boris Johnson has been elected as the next Prime Minister for our country in regards to Brexit. He's supposed to be officially taking the position this afternoon.

Not saying I don't like the guy, he's a laid back and free dude, but...let's just say that Boris tends to go a bit off the rails here and there in the responsibility sense, especially in times when it's not needed.

Congratulations to Germany, the US's new BFF in the EU · 4:41am Jun 24th, 2016

The UK has, by the looks of things, voted to leave the EU.

The pound is already down 10%.

And by that I mean 12%, as it has fallen an additional 2% since I found out that Brexit is, apparently, happening.

The economists did warn them.

Ah well. In for a penny, in for a pound.

At the present rate, that will be the exchange rate when I get up tomorrow..
