Mel Waters lived in a town which was home to a strange, bottomless pit. The local people would throw their garbage in it (and had been doing so for more than fifty years), but no one ever heard the garbage hitting the bottom of it. Mel eventually came in possession of the land where the hole was located. He did a bunch of tests on it to see if he could find out how deep the hole was.
