While this weekend's (US) episode was quite good, there were hints of the problems inherent with Equestria's Enlightened Despotism. In the process of writing this, I've partially talked myself around: This episode portrays a far healthier system than Princess Spike, though there are still a few problems. Analysis follows
After watching this weeks episode, I can say that I emphasize hugely with Princess Luna. As someone whom has worked a night shift job I can explain exactly what Luna's night is like.
1) The job is BORING. You will get lonely, and you will start talking to yourself to keep your mind active. If anyone catches you and says that you're acting weird, just them that you do it because you prefer intelligent conversation.

We may have had a moment here or there, like when she laughed at Discord’s joke about Twilight’s bad flight skills, but here’s an episode where she has a realistic character flaw and it is resolved well. I know a lot of people were waiting for that; frankly, I was worried they’d keep Celestia at arm’s length for the whole show run.
Just a thought that occurred to me after posting today's Friendship is Card Games that seems important enough to merit its own blog post. Credit goes to Maran for getting my mind to go in this direction.
One of the most notable aspects of "A Royal Problem" was that this wasn't just Starlight's first map mission, but also the first solo map mission ever.
At this point, I am not even pretending I'm trying to keep to any kind of schedule. I've been friending all week, had no time to watch anything, who cares, it's all Canada's fault.
So yeah, for those keeping track, this one's about the Celestia/Luna episode. That I tried reallly hard not to get excited about when the synopsis was revealed, because Starlight Glimmer. :B
I ran across this image and, of course I started to think of some commentary on each dream image: #1: Is Fluttershy dreaming that she's the pet and Angel is the master? B/c that would make sense! #2: This is either Cadence's dream or Flurry Heart's dream. Maybe Flurry secretly want's to play some music for her mama?
Daybreaker: Ugh. So much black. We get it. You're sad.
And she says this to Nightmare Moon… burn.
Finally, an episode featuring the sisters in a main role! While my expectations leaned towards a more comedic episode, I never thought they would ever put in this much heart.
Starlight Glimmer is sent to solve a friendship problem between Princess Celestia and Princess Luna; when it's clear that the problem is that the royal sisters don't appreciate one another, Starlight impulsively switches their cutie marks!
This week, Chris had a blog post detailing his problems with S7E10: Princess Freaky Friday“A Royal Problem.” It’s a good one, and I think very worth checking out. I... URGH FUDGENUBBIT. Season 7 Episode 10's Royal Problems was the most Celestia and Luna we ever got in an episode. It also featured some stellar voice acting from Nicole Oliver and Tabitha St. Germain.
I knew the moment I read the summary for this episode this episode would be awesome or terrible, a concept like this wouldn't do in half-measures. So, awesome, or terrible?
Very, very much the first. This is the Celestia and Luna episode we've been waiting for.
Anyone who's been keeping tabs on my blogging will know full well that there is a particular song by Kate Bush that I associate with S7E10. It just so happens that I practically dreamed the correlation as a case of catching sight of it on TV and chuntering some of the lyrics while in a transfixed state. It could've developed but I was roused from my sleep at the key moment, but in retrospect the scene in question did not fit with the screenshots I've found.
spoiler warning.....well shit even though she appeared in a dream i never thought id see a nightmare version of celestia....or Daybreaker in this case my first reaction was (uncertain smile) "mommy?"
Okay, so A Royal Problem is the best episode I've seen since Season 2 gave us Lesson Zero and Dragon Quest.
Normally, I don't divulge too many spoilers in these things, but there are a few things that must be talked about. Check after the break for my thoughts!
Season Seven will likely be remembered for its finale, and how it tied together storylines spanning many seasons, (not to mention its tie-in to the comic books). It also had some pretty phenomenal landmark episodes like A Perfect Pear, and Royal Problems - beautiful stories that tackled subjects we have all been waiting to see explored for a very, very long time.
