I'm around, but in pain.

Last Friday, I had a minor medical procedure called Radiofrequency Ablation--basically involving microwaving the back of my tongue under partial sedation. The purpose of it is to cause the internal tissues of the tongue to tighten by basically roasting them, helping to open the airway--I'm still suffering a bit of obstructive sleep apnea even after the jaw advancement surgery I had a couple years ago.

I have around 5500 words on the new chapter and three of four sections completed, though the 4th--the all-important Peregrine section--I have yet to start. I expect to finish it this weekend; depending on how quickly it comes (no pun intended) there's at least an outside chance the chapter will launch on Sunday.

It currently stands at 8500 words and will likely be over 10k when all is said and done. For that reason, I’m considering splitting it into two parts to give the climactic third section its own chapter and focus, same as I did for the Blossomforth/Cloud Kicker scene. We’ll see what my prereaders say on that score. If so, I’d simply release the two halves a couple days apart, and don’t worry; the second section has some sexytimes of its own!

I’ve noticed before that when I release multiple chapters of the same story in rapid succession, the later chapters tend to do more poorly than the initial ones in terms of views and comments. Such was the case here as the fifth Firefly chapter was released with very little apparent interest. There were only three comments on the content, and two of them were to complain about my choice of closing quote.

Well, folks... I admit I had a couple of shaky moments not long after I released the new C&C chapter, wondering if I'd just made a grave mistake by bumping the rating and including the ending scene. Because I’m ill. I started getting sick last Monday and by Wednesday I was down hard with a severe cold. Not COVID, and not the flu, but maybe it was that RSV thing that’s been going around. I’ve only been slowly getting better, taking two and a half sick days off from work, but sleeping has been an apnea-filled adventure at times with my nose so stopped up, and my energy has been very low. As a result, despite all the time off, I haven’t been writing much.
