There haven't been any concentrated bursts of hot days here yet until very recently, just the odd isolated one. Of course, the hottest days in Ireland (which probably only compare to April in Southern California) are invariably in July and August, not June, but even so, it was mild enough this year to make me not notice it was June 21^st.

I had hoped it would be ages before I did another Author Spotlight on an author who had passed away (with the exception of Darth Link 22, who left us a little over a year ago, and is on the queue). Life is cruel, unfortunately, and so this spot in the queue is a spotlight on the fics of Level Dasher, who, despite a hospital surgery to remove a tumour, had cancer spread uncontrollably, finally taking him 15 days ago.

November means one core thing for me, least as Fimfiction is concerned – Jinglemas is open again for signups! Okay, really, it’s more of a December thing, as you don’t get your characters to write to until November 25^th. But it’s in the air, and while the random nature of what you might get to write makes it not for everyone (they do group relevant gens and characters together, though), it remains worth consideration.

I could have addressed this with my usual “the show ended on exactly the whimper we all expected” sentiment. But instead, I figured, why not celebrate it, for what it’s worth? In the last two months, animatics of four Season Two FiM episodes have been posted online by a storyboard artist who worked on them, Raven Molisee (as one of two or four board artists). Presumably it’s a mixture of being for her showreel, though the uploads lack any edits to point out what parts she boarded, even if one can spot when the drawing style shifts. Regardless, it’s pretty cool, I think, to have production history legally available like this.

As far as “officially” watching Friendship is Magic has gone over the years, the overwhelming majority have done so via Netflix. To the point that, reportedly, something like ten times as many people watch it there compared to its home network The Hub/Discovery Family. That may be small potatoes to us fans who obviously don’t wait for it to come there, but it’s worth acknowledging.

That time of month… well, not again, as this is the first time this is monthly, but close enough. Technically, half the roundup is actually films from the tail end of September, but I felt five roundups on the weekly to cover everything in the stockpile then was bordering on overload. I would caution that my rating criteria here is obviously not the same as with Ponyfic reviews, accounting both for them not being free (well, okay, they are if you’ve got the right streaming service, but you know), the different medium and higher standards. Perhaps in the future I’ll say more on this, but for now, ★★★1/2 is a good benchmark for “worth a watch, no strings attached”, though you have to go higher to get to hearty recommendations.
