After a great deal of debate, I've decided I'm going to post this entire thing in 5 parts. This entire Retrospective is huge and I've had the help of dozens of people to get details and timelines right. Why? Because I wanted to make sure I captured every moment.
Today's post... today is about just how powerful something like EFNW can be.
Everfree Northwest was everything I wanted and more.
So much more.
Thursday started early for me. The entire family got up at 5 AM to take me to the airport.
My co-pilots for the drive to the airport.
Saying goodbye to the fillies
Howdy all.
So, it's been a while. EFNW took a lot out of me this year because, well, organizing the venue layout and 121 events with only 2 months kept me pretty busy. On the bright side Bronyville, the primer Brony Podcast, said it was one the best cons they have been to in years, brony or otherwise.
UPDATE: SITUATION RESOLVED!
My Friend and I Need a Cheap Place to Stay for Everfree Northwest!
UPDATE: My Friend's not coming, so it's just me.
A couple months ago, I got to meet my coworkers physically for the first time since the pandemic began, in part so we could all meet and greet the company's new CTO. In the news, airing on every TV in the tavern, a parking garage had collapsed in New York City.
In hindsight, that may have been an omen.
Alright everybody, it's about time for a real post-con blog from my side.
Let's start by saying that I forgot today was Tuesday. Also, I want to apologize to everyone that met me and discovered what my sense of humor is like in person.
Day 2, Thursday the 10th
Ever since I started going to EFNW, I've bunked with Petrichord and Flashgen. It makes sense: we all like ponies, we all write, we all like animation, and I can throw anime and shows at them to see how they react.
It's always a win, and that means we now have…
Day 3, Friday the 11th
Ah. Friday. Usually I am glad because it's the end of the work week, but this time around I am glad because it's the beginning of the work-ish week. Sort of. Maybe.
After a morning shower and waiting for the others to get ready, we got our daily dosage of Coffee and Hilda. Didn't have much time, since I wanted to be ready for both the marketplace being open, and my panel, which was slated at 10:15AM that day.
So I have been a member of this lovely fandom for nearly two years and I feel like I have truly grown in my status as a fan.
I have read stories that everyone loves and found them to be average at best(Past Sins was okay, but it certainly isn't the great American novel of our time).
I have determined that "The Mysterious Mare-do-Well is not as bad as many people act like it is(It is still really bad)
Holy crap. I'm a finalist for Everfree Northwest's Scribblefest.
My story that made it to the finals.
Proof that I'm not just messing with you.
Kinda funny, considering I wanted to write the story as a holiday fic (like I did with 'Heima' and 'A Jagged Gorgeous Winter'). Well, yay me.
I got a friend to help me edit it so it reads better.
Would you look at that? Another convention! Time flies when you're waiting for conventions.
I will be in charge of the Electronic Gaming Room again. We are open 24 hours and I will be in there for 80% of the convention. Come and say hi to me. I'll be wearing the staff shirt as well as my punk vest. It'll be hard to miss me.
Say hi, chat with me, play a game of Smash, whatever. I had fun running into folks at Babs, so why not?
SATURDAY (cont'd)!
This isn't just a follower milestone blog (though while I'm here, thanks to all 1,501 of you,) it's also an announcement. My flight's been booked, my hotel's reserved. I'm going to Everfree Northwest this year. Looking forward to seeing any and all of you who will also be attending.
Flutterpriest is a stand up (colt, I wish that were one word or at least hyphenated) guy with such respect I hardly need to boost this. He just made a fucky-wucky ordering hotel tickets for EFNW through the wrong website which puts him out a whole grand.
His blog post has him offering commissions and taking tips and such, just in case you're so inclined.
Realize I haven't breathed a word about this, and that I'm generally silent on the blog side of Fimfiction as it is, but I'm attending Everfree Northwest this year!
It's been a long few years since a pony convention for me (since the before times) so really looking forward to it! Additionally, I'm participating in Twilight Sparkle's Book Nook, so 3 physical books from me will be available at the booth. This includes
- Ministry of Image's version of Past Sins
Greetings from Bellevue! For anyone reading this, attending Everfree Northwest this year, and who wants to maximize their me-related activities there (for whatever reason you may have) here's where you can be sure to see me:
Day 4, Saturday the 12th
Sometime in the am Flashgen got back to hotel, apparently he'd been hanging out with his Quills and Sofas' buddies, which is pretty neat, but even though it was a late arrival, we were all up the next morning for our ritual of Coffee & Hilda!
I also got Flashgen to sign his book for me that day!
Thanks to Fistfire for pointing these out.
I have gone through and fixed some grammar issues and odd wording in all 3 chapters.
One critical thing I haven’t made clear enough: the only reason I managed to go to EFNW was because of EbonQuil’s generosity. I won’t go into specifics, but I can say with confidence that I would not have been able to enjoy this amazing time if it hadn’t been for him.
Also, I forgot to post a key moment of Thursday night’s activities: us watching Corejo play “The ComCast Game,” AKA No internet Game on Chrome last year!
