...Okay, okay. I suppose, in the long run, I'm not all that angry at the show's creators or anyone else who seems to enjoy this. I don't want to come off as this salty fanboy who's upset at every little change, but I still can't help ask the question: "Did this need to be shown?"
Simple, old-fashioned fun, and Pinkie in particular was amusing for most of the episode. It really did feel as though Josh Hamilton had to struggle a bit to make it fill 22 minutes, though. And what was that Rainbow Dash all about? ★★/★★★

I'm rewatching season five right now, and I realized there are a lot of tertiary characters named "Flare". So...
G. M. Berrow doing what G. M. Berrow does well -- light, fluffy, entertaining filler. Nothing too deep or meaningful in here, and (as I always do) I missed most of the little pop culture nods (though even I got the main crossover theme!), but I had fun. It's not enormously memorable and I'd hope there'll be better eps this season, but no real complaints about this one. ★★★
Apparently most of the fandom thinks this was quite good at best. Oh well, looks like I'm out of step, then, because I adored it. Even its little flaws made it more lovable to me. It's far and away my favourite episode of S8 so far, and quite possibly top 20 of all time. Admittedly I'm biased because of Scootaloo swimming, but still. ★★★★
Like many people, I was rather dreading a rehash of "Baby Cakes". Like many people, I'm happy to be wrong. I didn't think it was amazing, but it did have one punch-the-air moment (featuring a book) and one that came close (featuring Cheerilee). Cadance and Shining Armor were adorable throughout, and Flurry... didn't make me want to throw rocks at her, which is a step up from "The Crystalling". I've long been on the side of the 'Blueblood' argument in favor of giving him the benefit of the doubt; venturing the guess that he just has a keen instinct for picking out the fops and then acts like a boor to scare them off. Rarity was being a fop at the Gala. This was before I rewatched the season one finale the other day. Having done so, I can now confidently say I was right; his behavior toward Rarity was an act.

Season 5 has just ended with a big wham and it's time to think over how it was, compare and contrast and just write a bunch of thoughts I had.
Note on the ratings: I use the ACTUAL rating system, not IGN's "8/10 - It sucks". 10 means 'amazing!', 7 means 'pretty good', 5 means 'avarage', 3 means 'below avarage' and 1 means 'I hate it'.
I haven't done this before, so don't expect miracles, but here's my 13-minute view of S5:
That was... well, it passed the time, I guess. I liked it more than "Party Pooped", but that's not saying much. I'm just not a big fan of the yaks, and this didn't really make me change my mind. Besides, it was basically "Appleyak Season", but without even a quick callback -- despite the relevant pony being in the episode. I suspect my opinion of this one may be harmed by the fact that it came after the brilliance of episode 10, but I don't think I'm ever going to love
Not bad at all. Another new writer, and this one did a solid job. It felt a bit like an episode from five years ago, but that's not really a complaint. Applejack finally being told something I've always wanted to see her have to deal with was funny, and I almost feel like adding a star just for AJ's "literally" correction, but I'll resist the temptation. Look, I don't care, all right? I'll fret about how the Pillars might change the show's dynamics later. Right now, I just have a warm fuzzy glow from seeing the Mane Six use the Elements again. Everything else is secondary. I'm so happy. ★★★★★

With news that the rest of S9 is already out in the Netherlands (in Dutch) and is likely to appear in Australia within the next couple of weeks, I'm changing a few things for a little while. I won't be looking at the front page, feature box or Popular Stories list of this site until I've seen the whole thing myself. I will also read no fics published after yesterday. I have enough stories on my RiL list to keep me going. For everyone else: please be careful out there!
This episode seemed to go on forever, and not in a good way. The pace felt like "Fluttershy Leans In", but without Fluttershy. My least favourite ep of S7 so far. Sorry, Fox brothers -- you still don't have the best record with me. ★★
