Recommended Story Reviews #6 – Mistakes Were Made, Regarding the Need for Sex Education, At The Top, …And Borrowing Dulls the Edge of Husbandry, Glory · 6:12pm Oct 4th, 2015

On Thursday night, at about 6pm, my internet died. Around 10pm, it came back to life.

Fortunately, I downloaded a number of pony stories from FIMFiction, so not all was lost. Still, being without the Internet is a terrible fate, and leaves me feeling diminished, as if I have been cut off from a part of myself.

Recommended Story Reviews #16 – The Numbers Don’t Lie, Disgraced, Learning Curves, An Afternoon for Dotted Line, Friends With Discounts · 12:26pm Jan 30th, 2017

Recently, I’ve been trying to be more productive. There are all too many times where I’m aware that I’m wasting my time, and I’m trying to make more of an effort to divert said “dumb time” into time where I actually accomplish something of value.

We’ll see how well it goes, but I’ve managed to put out a review set every other day since I started. So, progress, right?

Recommended Story Reviews #18 – Heretical Fictions, Tiny Wings, Shine, Taken for Granite, Groomed to Perfection · 7:33pm Jun 3rd, 2017

I’ve re-read Heretical Fictions a few times over the years, but kept on putting off posting a review of it until after I reviewed Eternal, as Heretical Fictions is a story about Twilight and Celestia reacting to Eternal being published in Equestria. Thus, that story’s review kept getting shuffled forward and forward in time, until finally I reviewed Eternal.

Recommended Story Reviews #10 – The Wrong Fork, Who We Are, The 18th Brewmare of Bluey Napoleon, Scoots’ Company, Little Deceptions · 12:19am May 28th, 2016

It has been a long time since my last recommended stories post, but I figured that before a nice long three day weekend (at least, here in the states, where Memorial Day is on Monday), some folks might want some good stuff to read.

All of these are taken off my favorites stories list from before I started writing reviews, so all of them are very good stories. Some of you may have read some of these, but if you haven’t, you shouldn’t keep missing out.

Recommended Story Reviews #4 – Whom the Princesses Would Destroy, A Canterlot Carol, Drinking Alone, Except With Two, Barrelled Up, Five Hundred Little Murders · 8:48pm Jul 20th, 2015

It has been a while since I’ve done a set of recommended story reviews.

Unlike my usual review sets, in these, I am drawing from stories that I put on my recommended and highly recommended lists before I started reviewing stories.

Recommended Story Reviews #13 – Storm, Late Night at the Hooves Household, Just Being Pinkie Pie, Heart is Where the Home is, A Million Things to Do · 7:17pm Nov 8th, 2016

Today is Election Day in the United States, the crescendo of over a year and a half of people campaigning to be leader of the free world. Be sure to vote, if you haven’t already (I did in mid-October, because here in Oregon, we vote by mail – no waiting around in line, and plenty of time to research the topics while you’re voting).

Sunset Shimmer Shipping Contest: the Honorable Honorable Mentions · 7:53am Oct 5th, 2017

It's been a few weeks since the results of the first decennial Sunset Shimmer Shipping Contest. And although the results weren't that controversial—I've only yet seen one person accuse us of being biased and wrong—I know that there were loads of stories that deserve some recognition, if not simply to be talked about.

Story review #17: The Opposite Reaction —by EpicGamer10075

Character’s:

Coco Pommel: Alright as sad as I am to say this I don’t like Coco in this story despite her being the main focus. She is just a very OOC insert nerd/teachers pet trope here. Plus she’s a simp!!!!! Overall not my favorite main character.

Vren55's Summer Plugging Reviews: The Mare Who Once Lived on the Moon · 7:26am Jun 3rd, 2016

It occurs to me that I need to start practicing other forms of writing, such as story or fic reviews. After all, I am a graduate student now, only reasonable that I start exploring some other career opportunities.

Story review #15: A Chance Meeting —by bahatumay

Character’s:

Sunset Shimmer: Sunset is pretty much who she is in canon and I enjoyed her as the main ish character of the story.

Adagio Dazzle: snarky, sassy, showing some cleavage to entice her audience. Pretty much the Adagio we all know and love in the show and in the community/on Fimfiction. Love her distain for humans and the fact she see’s us as lower life forms compared to sirens!

Gushing Fan Review: Second Chances, Many Changes · 5:49am Aug 8th, 2016

Hi all! Now, I know none of you clicked the follow button on my page over the scintillating contents of this blog, but I really wanted to do a teensy little blog post about a story on this site. Now, I don't usually review other stories, because I generally never want to say any story sucks, but I figure if I only review stories I like, I won't have to!

Fic Feedback #3 – A Year of Seasons · 1:53am Jul 20th, 2015

Last fall, the FlutterDash group ran a contest for stories about FlutterDash and the four seasons.

It only had one entry (though HoofBitingActionOverload eventually finished his entry as well.

I had agreed to go over the winning entry and give the author feedback.

I never did, even though I put it on my “to do” list.

That ends today!

Read It Later Reviews #30 – A Diamond and a Tether, Night Rose, Happy Hour, Quiet Contemplation, Fixing the Stud · 6:54pm Sep 13th, 2015

A Diamond and a Tether has been on my to-read list for a long time now, and I finally got around to reading it and wondered why I hadn’t done so before.

So many things are so easy to do in retrospect, and yet, we let months elapse before we do them.

In totally unrelated news, I’ve been working on editing Mistletrapped, sprucing up the last couple chapters before I ship them off to my editors.

Penalt's Reading Corner - May 30 · 10:42pm May 30th, 2022

Potatoes and Space Travel. Two things that very few people would associate with each other. At least that is until a few years ago when published an interesting book about a marooned astronaut that wound up becoming a best seller and later, a highly popular film.

I speak, of course, about The Martian starring Matt Damon with the story written by Andy Weir.

Story review #9: The Bug and the Wanderer —By Thesane1

Character’s:

Chrysalis: She is angry, dedicated, and obviously loves the hive. She’s perfectly in character in my book! Especially if her invasion force had died after the battle. And because she is much like her Canon self I give the author a thumbs-up 👍
