Whatever. Here’s some story recommendations.
(For the record, the first review was actually written when the story was still in the "New Stories" box, but I'll be holding off publishing it until I have a few other stories I wanna recommend. So if it's gotten more popular over the ensuing weeks… then… who cares, exactly. Get off my case.)
Not usually a big person for doing this but I feel like referring a few fics that aren't getting the love they deserve, don't expect in depth analysis I've never been one to do so as it often lessens the joy I get from reading.
Let's do this.

So, this isn't quite a review, but I've had it with this story not getting the attention it needs.
Scarlet is a intrigue/drama/action story about a war-scarred mare, Scarlet, who has her life overturned when she finds a filly named, Primrose, in her house on a stormy night. Primrose has a lamp, that some shadowy forces seem to want, and they'll do anything to get it. Including killing them both.
So I'm trying something new today here at Unusual Things. I've had the idea for a post series like this in the back of my head for a while now, and while it's not going to be a regular series like Being a Better Writer is, I do hope it might be an occasional counterpart.
This book is good enough that I'm going to give a brief overview of it.

If you guys have followed me for a while, you'd know that once upon a time, I would dole out a post that highlights all the progress I've done and all my plans for the corresponding month. I would also headline them with a set of album covers that I've been listening to that month, though it never went beyond that.
This is a post that will go beyond that.
We have 3 new good stories today from write-offs:
Dubious Enchantment by bookplayer. This is a cute story about Twilight trying to get Pinkie's money back for some purchases she made from a merchant of artifacts of unspeakable evil. 2nd place winner in the Feb. write-off. That was, like, today.
You've seen FanOfMostEverything. He's everywhere. Look, down below, in the comments: he's there. I like it when I get a chance to recommend a story by somepony who does a lot for the community. You may have read his "Mandatory Fun" last year.
Church, while he may deny it modestly, is an amazing writer. He's just started a new diary style story from the point of view of Rainbow Dash's mother which I can't recommend enough. It's beautiful and sweet so far, though with Church there's no telling the direction it might go. He can be a strange one sometimes, our Church.

For those interested, this short arc that introduces both Scootaloo and my take on Seaponies were taken from these stories. Moreso "The Shadow over Innsmouth" but "Dagon" is just my favorite short Lovecraft thing to introduce the way things are described and while I may be combining the ideas of probably Inception, the Emotional Spectrum (and therefore the Green Lantern Corps), elements of anime (particularly Bleach's more flashy bits and literally the soul weapons are literally soul reaper

Edited to add: In view of the second seven chapters that were added to the story after the first seven, this story still has many good qualities, but some of the additions are not exactly 'fun' in the most direct sense. I still recommend it as an interesting AU, though.
When a story that is imho good and more fun as a story and better written than most fimfiction.net stories just doesn't fit the demographic and gets an amazingly low number of reads...(at least so far)
