Here it is, readers! The official cover for Shadow of an Empire, releasing June 1st!
… This post is the kind of thing I’ve been talking about. Someone over on Reddit’s r/printsf (print speculative fiction, usually Scifi), after a discussion about how the subreddit almost always discusses the same few books, launched a post specifically to talk about indie Sci-Fi authors and people’s favorite indie Sci-Fi books.
Full post here! And don't forget the Reddit AMA Reminder!
And here I thought bandits were bad. Oh well.
Hey readers! Dropping a small news update here for Friday afternoon to keep you updated on Shadow of an Empire's Alpha progress!
Hello readers! I come to you today with news! And also, with a question.
The news, first. But those of you tempted to skip it, don’t. The question is tied deeply into it, and I would prefer feedback from you, the readers.
When it doesn’t sell anything, clearly.
Okay, this needs a bit of explanation, but it’s an odd one. So things have been going pretty well sales-wise lately. Colony and Shadow of an Empire just keep ticking away copies, finally moving my book income from “Spare change” to “rent payment.” Or at least, they were, save for this last week.
We understand: Shadow of an Empire can be a daunting prospect for a reader. A nine-hundred-plus page book? In paperback? Is it even worth the money? The reviews say yes, but folks don’t always trust reviews. They’d like to experience what’s between the pages themselves.

That's how little I have left to edit on this Alpha pass of Colony. 60,000 words. Considering the story itself is 333,000 words, that's not much. A day or two worth of work, no more. Then I've got to run through and make some noted changes to air pressure in a few marked chapters, and then ...
Hey guys, Max here with a couple of noteworthy news updates!
I’ll get to the first and most exciting one first. Shadow of an Empireis now in Beta! The Beta Readers invites have been sent out, several readers have already responded and received their links to the Master Beta Read document, and things are in motion!
Looks like something’s coming, folks …
That’s right. It’s almost time! Alpha readers! You know who you are. And what this means.
Are. You. Ready!?
Hey folks! It’s time for a news update!
So, what’s new? Well, after spending all of last week save a day sick (seriously, gnarly cold), this week has been more of a return to form. Writing, working, and all the usual once more.
Before you start, there's a Christmas Sale on! Colony and Dead Silver both are reduced prices through Christmas! Perfect for last minute gifts!
Hello readers! Max here with some really good news, and a question for you: Do you like art?
Let me be more specific. Would you like this art? As a 12″ x 24″ glossy print suitable for framing?
Sands and storms, it's time for one of these already? Even more alarming, this nears marking the the third anniversary of Unusual Things?
Boy, the days really fly, don't they?
Well, it is what it is. Time marches on. Which means that once again it's time to take a look back at my goals, accomplishments, and the like during this year and see what I've gotten done. It's time to put 2016 under the microscope and look at some hard data.
