Stay on target... almost there... · 4:07am Jul 12th, 2017

Today I flew the second mission for the next chapter of CSP. All I have left to write is the outcome of that flight and the epilogue, and another 25,000-ish word chapter will be complete, or at least ready for final edits.

Expect a Changeling Space Program update next week.

Time to edit the *yay* out of this. · 5:22pm Jul 13th, 2017

New Changeling Space Program chapter completed.

Current draft: 25,508 words.

I will spend my non-sales time this weekend at my booth at Delta H Con editing, getting viewpoints more consistent, punching up descriptions, and definitely looking for deadwood to trim.

But I don't anticipate finding much.

And once I complete this final pass, the thing will get posted.

The first reading of one of my fics! · 4:34pm May 7th, 2018

Fanfiction Reader has rendered a voice-synthesis version of Changeling Space Program on YouTube! The program doesn't have any sense of timing, and it stumbles badly trying to pronounce unfamiliar words, but it provides a way to read (or re-read) the story without staring at a screen!

I'm guessing the overlap between programming language nerds and ponyfans is pretty small. But just in case you're interested:

I finished my side project that's been keeping me away from writing since last the end of NaNoWriMo. It's an interpreter for a very silly language called FiM++. A program looks like this:

[code]
Dear Princess Celestia: Hello World!

Today I learned something simple.
I said “Hello, Equestria!”!
That's all about something simple!

FimFiction API · 11:57pm Jul 10th, 2017

So today knighty threw up documentation for a FimFiction REST API. I've only skimmed the documentation so far, but from the looks of things I should be able to throw together a Google Apps Script which will integrate with Google Docs and allow you to post/update stories from within Docs. Could be neat!

We'll see how far this goes.

The Tao of program features · 9:26pm Apr 14th, 2017

I was recently going through old posts on another blog, and came across this gem. Adapted from user "Arcanaville" on the City of Heroes forums:

It's never as hard as the developers say it is.
It's never as easy as the users think it is.
The best way to do it is most likely something both groups would initially think is insane.

KSP Livestream Tonight... · 11:22pm Dec 2nd, 2019

So, I've had a frustrating and mostly futile afternoon...

... so of COURSE I'm going to top it off with a livestream of Kerbal Space Program in which I try to correct last week's fuckups.

Begins 7 PM Central time (about an hour and a half after I post this).

There will be another KSP livestream Thursday at 7 PM, by the way.

InspiroBot · 11:56pm Jun 28th, 2017

InspiroBot generates inspirational posters. They're not completely random, but they're not pre-defined, either. Some of the results can be quite hilarious.

This blog post isn't about the posters it generates, though. This is about the things it says while generating them.

When you first load the page, it will present its "About" text:

Another killer plane from KSP. · 6:19am June 16th

This one needs a little more explanation.

I'm not sure this one even flies much short of supersonic. I do know that at 300 m/s or higher the thing is nearly unsteerable- probably due to the canards I put on the nose to move the center of lift forward a bit. I'm pretty sure those were a bad idea, at least without control surfaces.

But that's not what killed a kerbal.

Game streaming August... · 10:03pm August 3rd

Tonight, beginning at 7 PM Central, I've decided to wrap up Kerbal Space Program Hard Mode- at least this playthrough. Just going to bring the Duna mission home so I can put together a video of the odyssey.

There are two reasons for this. The first one is the August Patreon vote got ONE vote- and it was for FTL. So for August I'll be working my way up through unlocking all the FTL Advanced Ed stuff on a new machine, beginning with Easy mode and then advancing.

Thinking about more game streaming. · 4:35am Sep 9th, 2019

Specifically, tomorrow evening (Monday 9-9), beginning 7 PM, at which point I believe I will fly a CSP mission which will get at most a paragraph in the next chapter, just to finish the temperature scans that didn't happen in Mission 22. That will run from building a rocket from scratch to as many "simulated" launches as necessary (read: revert to VAB if the design proves bad) to landing a rocket-rover on Minmus.

25,953 words.

Chapter 10's rough draft is complete.

Three flights.

Two re-entries.

One musical number.

And several references, hints, and Chekov's Guns.

Tomorrow I edit, and hopefully post, this monster.

Stay tuned, space fans.

That's a lot of missions. · 1:56am Jul 22nd, 2017

So, today I flew the last mission for the next chapter of Changeling Space Program- the mission Luna gets a tourist ride on.

I just now noticed, however, that I skipped a number in my mission-ing, so I'm going through the text now to re-number.

The last mission I flew is now CSP Mission Twenty.

Thursday KSP Livestream · 10:57pm Dec 5th, 2019

Monday turned out to be surprisingly successful. Let's see if I can repeat it in two hours.

Four Kerbals to rescue around the Mun, plus two satellite contracts and a docking contract to clear.

Begins 7 PM Central tonight:

Incidentally, I'll be doing these streams Mondays and Thursdays from now until the Monday after Christmas.

CSP Bit Posted to Patreon · 6:17pm Jun 29th, 2016

I'm not dead, and neither is CSP.

I've posted the first section of Changeling Space Program Chapter 9 to Patreon. It involves Elytron, chief of Chrysalis's guards and the bug running things in the hive while she's being an astronaut, dealing with a couple of obnoxious, uninvited visitors with a business proposition.
