I've replaced the introduction from my original post with this one. After the body of the post (past the second HR), I've also included a selection of worthwhile comments from the discussion the post generated back in May 2017.
So I said in a previous post that I had three complete stories written in 2017 that I had yet to publish. Well, thanks to a snow day in Tokyo today, I had the free time I needed to finish this one up.
This one is shorter than the prior few entries and, as such, has had a lighter 2022 editing touch. It's also largely already contained in the extended cut on my previous post on biplane pegasi posted here.

This is Grammer a Week, the periodic blog program-thing where I soapbox about a grammar subject I find interesting. You might, too! This week's installment definitely errs more on the side of "interesting" than "useful" because I'm talking about the word "pegasus" today. What do you think the plural form of the word "pegasus" is? "Pegasuses"? "Pegasi"? That question is actually much harder to answer than you may think.

Life is funky. Truly, it can smell funky, sound funky, look funky, and is generally just strange... and funky.
I put Tidal Flows on hiatus years ago, and I never really paid much attention to Fimfiction - too wrapped up in my own boring business of life. However, I want to turn a new leaf, put my best hoof forward, and try my best to keep things updated.
So, here is the updatesies!
First, in the episode, “Hearth's Warming Eve” we are told that the Equestrian nation is not the first home of the ponies. The ponies moved to what became the Equestrian nation to escape the curse of the windigos. Luna could send a team of well-educated ponies to check up on the original pony homeland and then see who or what is living there now. There might be ancient pony artifacts, a hidden Unicorn treasure vault, or the workshop of Star Swirl the Bearded that needs to be found again.

Games are an important form of ancillary worldbuilding. They create verisimilitude by showing that characters do play games, but can also create a fundamental alien-ness. Think of the Dejarik from Star Wars or the 3D chess from Star Trek.

Okay, so I rarely do this. And by rarely, I mean I've never done this before. But I recently had the pleasure of editing a story that I seriously believe you should check out:
We all love zombies. I mean, who doesn't? They're just so fascinating. Reanimated corpses set on feasting on your flesh. The perfect thing for the spirit of Hallowen, the scariest time of year.

So, how did I spend my week? Did I write several thousand words? Did I move bookshelves so the library could be repainted? Did I finish sewing a dress and begin an embroidered Gorgoneion?
Well, yes, I did do all of those. But I also went through this remarkably obsessive list of every pony who appears in every episode of FiM, and analyzed the data I collected from that.
A major part of worldbuilding is sports and games. Taking something familiar and changing it slightly has multiple uses. It creates verisimilitude by showing that your fictional world still has and plays games. It creates a slight disconnect from the audience, because they can recognize that the mechanics are similar, yet not identical (a smaller version of the Uncanny Valley, if you will). It also gives you a chance to showcase the fantastical elements of your setting and tie them into
