Read It Later Reviews #25 – Rarity’s Rodeo, Dangerous, 100th Day, She’s Dazzling, Naked Lunch · 10:53pm Aug 10th, 2015

I wrote a piece of original fiction over the weekend – the first such piece I’ve written since late 2013. I had some fun writing it, and I think I shall be doing more of it and see how it goes.

But don’t think that means I’m giving up on ponies. Original fiction is business. Ponies? Are fun.

Speaking of fun, I reviewed five more stories, including one that really impressed me.

Today’s stories:

Rarity’s Rodeo by Somber
Dangerous by totallynotabrony

Read It Now Reviews #100 – Donald Trump Grabs Princess Celestia’s Pussy · 6:15am Nov 9th, 2016

There are times, my friends, when you feel the zeitgeist – the spirit of the times – and you must write.

For George Orwell, it produced Nineteen Eighty Four, as he viewed the creeping totalitarianism of the world around him.

For me, it produced The Collected Poems of Maud Pie, written in a single night while channeling Maud.

And for Admiral Biscuit… for Admiral Biscuit, it produced… this.

Read It Now Reviews #109 – Auk-ward…, RariTwi Shipping, A Proper Pair of Idiots, Three Letters, My Wings Will Keep You Safe · 6:42pm Jul 31st, 2017

I originally started this review set on April 15th. I got three stories done, and then forgot I had started a set. By the time I got back to it, it was the end of June, so I figured I probably should move them over to a Read It Later review set.

And then sat on it for another month.

Horizon publishing a story this morning, along with a request from someone who had gotten a featured story, spurred me to finish this set.

Today’s stories:

Read It Later Reviews #17 - Naked Singularity, Walking through Fire, Lady Prismia and the Princess-Goddess, Paper Promises, Off the Edge of the Map · 7:08am Apr 7th, 2015

Back in December, when I first started this set of reviews, I wrote:

It is very easy to try and write reviews of a lot of short stories. It lets you get through large numbers of works in a short period of time… but it also means you’re avoiding many of the longer works, many of which I added to my Read It Later list because they were supposed to be quite good. What is the point of having such stories on your list if you are always going to put off reading them?

Read It Later Reviews #37 – More Than Dreams, Love Twiangles, Marble Madness, Talking to Rocks, Quoth the Raven · 10:34pm Nov 20th, 2015

Ah, procrastination, my old foe, returned to bite me with a vengeance today. Annoyed with myself for not getting anything done, I decided to focus on one thing I could do – read stories, and review them, and maybe get my own creative juices flowing.

It only sort of worked. But I did find some stuff I liked, so the day wasn’t a total loss.

Today’s stories:

More Than Dreams by Minds Eye
Love Twiangles by Oroboro
Marble Madness by Twinkletail

I know you all know me as someone who only writes oneshots, but longfics are people too, and I have a couple to recommend written by some very talented people. Having preread both of these fics, I can safely say they are fantastic, and you are in for a treat.

Dealing with Jealousy and Broken Friendships

Jealousy can be a tough thing to deal with. You want to believe that as someone who tries to do the right thing or generally be a good person that jealously can't effect you. But the reality is that it is something that everyone has experienced in one form or another in their lives. It it is a natural human emotion and it is okay to feel jealous about a situation, just as long as you also work to resolve the issue at the same time.

Read It Now Reviews #53 – Wanting Sweet Things, Rarity Sleeps In, Far Kobresia, No Sale, To Hell With Destiny · 4:07am Sep 12th, 2015

A busy day today for people I follow – four new stories in my feed, from three different authors, including the long-absent Darf, who is oft spoken of in hushed tones, for fear that he might return if you said his name in front of a mirror three times.

Seems someone finally did. And so, I thought, what better way to welcome him back from two years of absence than to review two of his new stories?

I’m so sorry.

Read It Later Reviews #85 – One More Shot, Red Meat, You and Her, When They Found Common Ground, A Bridge to Somewhere · 9:41pm May 8th, 2018

There are times when you realize you’re just wasting your time doing things that don’t matter, not only to anyone else, but also to yourself.

That you can be doing so much more.

I have these realizations constantly. And yet, so often, they are Ignored Epiphanies, and I go on, doing the same thing, even though not even I like it.

Playing a game I don’t enjoy to completion.

Arguing with people on Reddit.

Read It Later Reviews #82 – Lost Time, From One Unicorn to Another, Lessons in Generosity, Study of Generosity, Spa and Order · 9:01pm Oct 30th, 2017

À la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time) is a classic of French literature.

A few nights ago, I finally found it. Lost Time, that is.

I got the rest of the set done on Saturday… and then my laptop had major problems on Sunday which are as yet not fully resolved, but at least I got it working again. This wouldn’t ordinarily be a problem… except for the fact that my house is being remodeled and, at the moment, is full of nasty fumes. Good old VOCs.

Why You Should Read "Diaries of a Madman" (if you haven't already...) - - - Middle Shelf #4 · 12:46pm Aug 17th, 2015

For these Middle Shelf blogs, I usually make one after I finish (or catch up on) whatever good fic I've just finished reading, if I remember to. There have been a lot I've meant to make blogs for but didn't until it was too late for my memory. This one is ongoing, and just updated a few hours ago, so let's get to it.

She · 12:11am Oct 12th, 2015

Am I allowed to look at her like that
Could it be wrong when she's just so nice to look at

And she smells like lemongrass and sleep
She tastes like apple juice and peach
You would find her in a polaroid picture
And she means everything to me

I'd never tell
No I'd never say a word
And oh it aches
But it feels oddly good to hurt

She smells like lemongrass and sleep
She tastes like apple juice and peach

Read It Later Reviews #18 – Treehouse, Fluttershy has Tea with Jesus, Open to Interpretation!, Burning Man Brony: Fear and Loathing in Equestria, A Princess by Any Other Name · 10:46pm May 15th, 2015

Yesterday, I read the entirety of Mort and several works of pony fanfiction, and added a thousand words to Mistletrapped.

Today, I read the better half of Pyramids and several works of pony fanfiction, and shall add another thousand words, if not more, to Mistletrapped.

Seems I’ve had a couple of pretty good days here, doubly so as I enjoyed several of today’s stories.

Though, ironically, I have about twice the pass rate of the average Royal Guard reviewer. So much for hating everything. :trixieshiftright:

Today we have three stories from the queue, along with two other pieces that I selected for my own reading enjoyment.
