You never really know what little events in your past, maybe even ones you've forgotten, have shaped you into the person you are today.

Science fiction often serves as a warning of things to come. In 1949, George Orwell wrote 1984, about omnipresent government surveillance and control, something we've all come to terms with in real life over the last decade or two. Today's Vault entry is another possible harbinger of things to come, silly though that may seem.

The batponies -- sorry, opliptera -- are a fascinating piece of Equestrian lore (unless you subscribe to the notion that they were just Nightmare Night costumes... but what's more fun, spooky mutant ponies or dressed-up pegasi?) that make the perfect Night Guard. But where did they come from? What secrets hide with them in the shadows?

So I think the realtime notifications have been deployed successfully. Think being the operative word there. These things are a little tricky because they have a custom backend (written by Xaquseg) and multiple client code paths due to different browse features. Anyway...

So what the hell are "realtime notifications"?

Site Post » Device Survey Results · 11:00am Aug 1st, 2013

So far there have been 3,348 results on the survey which is enough for me to make some assessments on. Thanks a lot guys for answering, it helps.

Firstly we can see an overwhelming desktop predominance, which is to be expected. I didn't ask whether Opera or IE were mobile versions, but if we assume they were all desktop users then 81% of users use a desktop/laptop for the main device to access Fimfiction.

Click the link above to be taken to the survey.

The reason why I'm doing this survey is because unfortunately analytics can't tell use everything about device usage. This should provide us with better data, but only if lots of you respond! It's simply 3 multiple choice questions so it's 5 seconds work.

Thanks!

edit: Laptop = desktop for the purposes of this survey.

There were three of them. Three men on a mission. A mission of extreme prejudice.

The jungle welcomed them, as it did all beasts. It swayed and parted, drawing them deeper into the darkness. The jungle loved its predators, and so it loved these three, dressed as they were for war. The trio was deathly quiet, save for the rattling of helmet straps or the clacking of keyboards as they surfed the web on their laptops.

Wow I was not expecting that response.... Anyway, I'd like to clarify exactly what would be happening with this change and why I wanted to do it.

The problem: Stories with saucy or other catchy, but otherwise fairly irrelevant artwork get an unfair amount of exposure.
