What are your least favourite fanfiction tropes? Doesn't have to be restricted to My Little Pony, you can branch out to other fandoms?

My list goes like this
- Characters are Overpowered right at the very start (However I can tolerate stories where they earn the power gradually)

- Character bashing (Overdone, but I don't mind fics that call out negative traits and later working to correct them)

- Adult-child romance and Incest (Personally find it creepy)

- Long paragraphs (Absolute nightmare to read. As someone in the journalism field, I prefer to write paras that are 3-4 line long, maximum 5 lines)

- Overly long stories (Not my cup of tea because I don't think I have the patience)

- Spelling character names (I can understand if some writers are not native English speakers, so normal word spelling errors can be forgiven. However, a quick Google + Copy + Paste can fix any problems with character names)

- Crossover stories that involve more than two universes (I especially hate it when the characters from two fandoms are suddenly whisked off to multiple fandom universes, because this then drags the story even more)

- OC main/secondary characters making no difference to the plot (What was the point of adding the OC main character if they were not going to change the plot at all? Especially when it is implied that they know something bad might happen, but they let it happen anyway.)

Draco in Leather Pants, and Ron the Death Eater.

When a fanfic portrays a character I like in a way that's so fundamentally different to the way I interpret them that I know I would never get along with the person writing them.
This is different to when someone is writing a character out of character in that, technically, I can see where they're coming from and why they'd reach their own interpretation of that character. Their interpretation of the character is fine! But it just doesn't vibe with me.

On that note, when people write a character out of character for no good reason.

I was going to put more stuff down but honestly stripping everything back it does mostly boil down to these two.

Also get seriously squicked by any sort of incest or noncon.

When someone writes a character out of character. For example, I read many stories where people wrote Shinning Armor as a big jerk.

Obvious self-inserts, and nonsensical plotting.

Charter is teleported to equestria but dosent turn into a pony

Ostensibly non-porn stories randomly detouring into graphic sex scenes for pages and pages, then resuming the plot like nothing ever happened.

Eh, multi crossover fics CAN work, seen a few well done ones

This is not limited to fanfiction, but I'd say someone creating an insanely convoluted and complex story that is then resolved with "It was all just a dream." or "It was all in his head." While this trope can work, it's terribly overused.

Preach it, sister!

What? Again? Create the one and only trope hating thread already.

Hello.

Personally, I would like to understand why you are creating such a topic on the forum?

And I'm going to explain why I feel that you want to express the protest that keeps your "inner world" by creating a topic in which negativity can manifest itself.

Asking other users what they don't like about fanfiction is like pulling vices out of them. That is, to one of the vices, whose name is - "Condemnation". This means that you are annoyed by many events in your life. You may not even realize it, but by condemning someone or something (while exposing your personal opinion to the public), it can sow the seeds of discord.

Because if I write my personal opinion (what exactly I don't like about fan fiction), I'm sure it can hurt the feelings of many users, and lead to irritation. Unpleasant discussions that will not lead to anything good, and at the same time will leave a lot of negative emotions.

What good will it do you personally if you pull out someone's opinion for everyone to see? Or are you going to give other authors a lot of hints that they would write in a way that would please you personally (and people like you who have a similar opinion)?

I agree if you asked the same thing just the other way around: "What exactly do you like about fan fiction?" That would be much better.

If you created a topic to find a pleasant, friendly communication with someone from the users, through an attempt to find a kindred soul, finding out what he or she "Does not like"... this is not the best approach.

Have you managed to find a lot of friends, or to draw some kind of progressive conclusions?

Mmm... No matter how far away you are from me, I feel that you are in pain.

Hm... interesting clip. And makes a lot of hints.

P.S. If I write a list of what I don't like, it will be a big list. And my opinion will be completely the opposite side of most people who have already expressed their opinion in this topic. For example, I am annoyed by everything that is in your library "Favorites", especially Anthro stories and Equestria Girls (or any other options, humanized ponies).

Oh yeah! And I also don't like it when the author writes a long story in which there is a Sex tag, and at the same time he/she does not know how to describe such a scene in more detail. They do not know how or do not want to convey a lot of feelings and emotions.

I could go on and on with this list, but someone will be offended by me! 100%

In general, I would like that on this site, in the profile settings, there is an opportunity to hide stories with an "E" and "T" rating. And that such stories would not clog the lists of "Similar or Preferred".

Do you often read or watch porn on the Internet?

Yes, and if it's awkward for you to say it in front of everyone, then you can write to me in a personal message. And I will put my hand on the Bible and swear that no one will know about this, and this conversation will be strictly confidential.

Not usually? For a while I would deliberately crawl porn-heavy parts of fanfiction.net and AO3 to find things for a sporking site I contributed to, but that's been inactive for about a year by now.

Not really sure why that would be relevant as even if I did, that does not mean I would be fine with it showing up in the middle of, say, a lighthearted adventure/comedy I was reading to pass the time during a slow moment at work.

My particular impetus for mentioning this was actually a (now deleted) Harry Potter 'fic that billed itself as a successor to Methods of Rationality but spent less time describing Harry doing science than doing various members of the Hogwarts staff.

Stop!

I got it! You are such a boring person that I would not want to communicate with you. Otherwise, it causes yawning and eye rolling. I don't blame you for this, but communicating with you is not my cup of tea. I could tell by the way you responded in your comments.

ok, this is what i was looking for, seriously that situation annoys me too, it's not that getting to the hunt as a human is bad, but i'm sick of it...

what is the fucking point of being in equestria and living life as a normal human? are you kidding? and there are very few stories of humans turning into ponies, I'm really tired of it...
