Maybe it could serve a purpose to teach high-school/university stuff since Cheerilee's class seems to only be for young foals.
Either that or she has beef with Cheerilee and wants to take over her job.
Whether this would come as a shock is something I don’t know, but…
At one point, I couldn’t help but think that a logical alternative for Twilight to create a school would be because the Ponyville school got destroyed or was going out of business for some reason. Maybe Twilight could create one specifically to help Miss Cherilee continue her job as a teacher, as well as to provide opportunities for others to take up teaching jobs.
8006759 Season 8 shouldn't have been about a School of Friendship; it should have been a direct continuation of the Movies' events dealing with the Aftermath of The Storm Kings' invasion and how despite the Mane Six managing to fart out a win at the last minute, the people of Equestria have all but lost their trust and patience with the Princesses who simply treat the constant attacks over the years with an aloof and cavalier attitude that after so many times when the Villains are nearly-successful in their conquests, the Storm Kings' Invasion was the final proverbial straw that finally gotten on the nerves of everyone in Ponyville save for those closest to the Element Bearers, and that the Princesses trust that has all but evaporated in places beyond the Equestrian Heartland (the area comprising of Canterlot, Cloudsdale, and Ponyville) as grassroots movements and civilian militias have taken to the streets with the goal of violently ousting the remnants of The Storm Kings' now-leaderless forces that were still carrying out their original command of looting and burning down the towns; while espousing the uselessness and incompetence of Celestia to protect them.
The most intense fighting present is in the West towards Tall Tale; where the largest civilian militia group known as Halepsi has emerged, who is underneath the command of Cozy Glow: who instead of being a Baby Doll parody in this setting is more of a combination of Tanya Von Degurechaffs' cold intelligence paired with Mikazuki Augus' deliberate brutality, and has a tendancy for calling most of the Mane Six either "Civilian", "Spectator", or "State-Sponsored Vigilante" dependant on where they're currently at in a given moment, with Twilight being singled out most of the time as "Toy Princess", "Trophy Princess", and "Participant".
Season 8 would revolve around Twilight Sparkle creating an Embassy within Ponyville as a means of rebuilding the lost trust in the Princesses, while at the same time The Halepsi are gearing up for a campaign to wipe out what remained of The Storm Kings' forces and find a way to brute force past a magical divide that splits off the rest of the continent from The Gorian Peninsula: a vast and untamed savage wilderness that's the home of the Centaurs and Gargoyles and the ancestral home of the Diamond Dogs that most of Equestria now erroneously refers as "The Undiscovered West".
As this is happening, The Halepsi representatives are sent to Twilights' Embassy alongside delegation members from Equestrias' allies and interact with the youths; unlike the Student Six, those of The Halepsi are very young and broken emotionally: having seen the absolute worst of Celestias' Equestria that had been neglected or ignored that they are prone to bouts of rage, hatred, and anger towards key aspects of Equestrian culture that it was considered a miracle they hadn't yet reached the point of a "Shoot-First-Asks-Questions-Never" policy before The Halepsi found and saved them.
8007556 It's supposed to serve as a slight political drama of a Season; one designed to tear down most of the sunshine and rainbows aspects of MLP by showing the darker side of the story and the tragedies and "Endor Holocausts" that happened offscreen from where The Mane Six were currently at in the story. Several examples consisting of the Diamond Dogs' desperation to survive that their capturing of Rarity was seen by them as a last resort to gather enough Gems to use in fixing a crystalline device that protects their home because of their distrust of Ponies. The apparent absence of Crystal Pony Refugees living in Equestria that had escaped the Empire during Sombras' reign before the Nation was sent into the future being the result of an outright genocide enacted by Unicorn Nobility to maintain power. The answer to why Alicorns are seen as being rare in Equestria stemming from their people being hunted down by The Three Tribes in the time before Equestrias' founding in a time when Alicorns were seen as no different from Monsters; and that they despise Celestia because she had betrayed their Tribes' customs and is hiding out in Equestria to avoid their retribution.
If you were to come up with an entirely different reason for Twilight to open a school, what would it be?
In this case, what intentions would Twilight have to create a school that isn’t to teach “Friendship”? And why?

Well, Twilight has been shown to enjoy teaching in past episodes, so maybe she opens a school to peruse some new dream she has.
Maybe it could serve a purpose to teach high-school/university stuff since Cheerilee's class seems to only be for young foals.
Either that or she has beef with Cheerilee and wants to take over her job.

Sounds rather complicated.
