In all honesty, the “Cosmos” arc from the MLP comic line is quite honestly one of my least favorites, as well as a definite example of why I’m not particularly fond of the comic line overall. From the very time I read the story, I noted that Discord was subjected to a disservice that’s even worse than the Grogar twist in Season 9, and there were several things about it that completely went against the canon and continuity of the show too! Particularly the backstory Discord gave over taking the blame for Cosmos’s actions, and how it portrayed him before being turned to stone for the first time. I also hated how the title character herself was portrayed and handled, because while she did have potential, she was overall a victim of terrible writing, direction, and characterization.
But, that’s why I wanted to ask you guys this:
If you were writing your own take on this comic’s story, perhaps even an alternate to it, what would you have done differently? How would you also make everything about it even better than what the comic itself provided?
I can certainly see the dislike for it, but at the same time, it does help show that Discord at least had the potential to be good (or at least less evil) - Cosmos clearly didn't care much for potential loss of life, whereas Discord did, and it does help show reasons for why Discord would be so hesitant towards a relationship. Would you want to open up to someone when you'd been the victim of abuse?
That being said, Discord is an unreliable narrator. He didn't kill, no, but it was less about not wanting to kill anyone and more about not wanting to break his toys.
I can accept it. Takes a few leaps, but I can accept it.
7999424 Unfortunately, I personally still think the “Cosmos” served as a terrible disservice for Discord. It still contradicted everything that the show portrayed him as in his villainous days, along with the confirmed backstory in the Season 4 premiere. I definitely don’t think killing others for fun is his style, but I’m pretty sure he didn’t see any reason to care about the well-beings of others either. Even if they were basically his “toys”.
7999254 I honestly haven’t read this one yet, but until then, you'll have to excuse me if I'm a bit skeptical of it of being worse than the Grogar twist.
8000306 Believe me, what the “Cosmos” comic did with Discord ultimately makes the Grogar twist look like child’s play, just like what Jeremy Whitley’s King Sombra comics did with the character in contrast to “The Beginning of the End”.

I'm of two minds with this arc.
