'The world has seen few lands as swept in turmoil and chaos as this. Whatever they call it, whomever rules there, the denizens of this land have rarely ever lived peaceful lives. We cannot know when it started or when it will end.
~ Star-Swirl the Bearded, Lord Minister and Chronicler of Canterlot

In the alpine hills and plains east of Alasaria, west of the Straits of Hamara, north of Haissan and south of Conland, the autonomous state known as Onageria is situated.
Onageria has a long history. Most of it bloody.

Early History- Onagria
The state was founded by the donkey warchief Onag the Overlord who fought a long and bitter war with the grey elk shaman lords to create his own kingdom. Little is known of his conquests as most of them fade to myth, telling tales of dragon-slaying, treasure-seeking and one betrayal after another. The kingdom was founded and named Onagria with its high castle, Onag's Hold.
Onag died an old and battle-weathered king and left the realm in the hooves of his two daughters, Hidrun Hardhoof and Hemione Heartfire. Like her father, Hidrun was a warrior and explorer who brought great glory to Onagria, slaying countless foes wherever they stood and expanding her father's kingdom by the day.
Hemione, meanwhile, was a meek and docile thing who cared for her subjects, going into the fields to help with the crop and the livestock, beloved by the common donkeys for her kindness and sweetness.
Hidrun always swore she would marry whoever could best her in combat. No beast is ever recorded to have done so and so she never had any legitimate children. Hemione, meanwhile, married Pallas ben Debistra, a charismatic North Hamaran prince famed for his devotion and loyalty to his wife, fighting hard to create a pact between his household and Onag's kin. With such strength both in might and influence, Onagria seemed well on the way to become a kingdom that would one-day rival Prance, Farmany or Saddle Arabia.
Then the storms came.
Word reached Onagria of the growing threat of the Swarthine Horde, an offshoot of Tirek's Barbarian Horde after their great defeat at the hooves of Rememberly the Bonnycorn.
The Swarthine Horde was led by a conclave of black goats, headed by a warlord named Baphometros ul' Nezethon.
Note: According to scholars, the noble house of Nezethon were exiled from the goat domains that were once Tambelon. No records are given detailing his exact crimes but his name is spoken with utter disdain, even by chroniclers confirmed to be black goats themselves. Tambelon was not a safe place to live. They practiced slavery, demon worship and animal sacrifice. For a noble to be exiled from such a realm for crimes so unspeakable even the other noble households detested it, one can scarce imagine what transpired for the Nezethon to be banished from Tambelon to slake their perversions upon unsuspecting Onagria.
Baphometros's brutality and depravity knew no bounds and as he advanced through North Hamara and approached Onagria, he left a mountain of corpses at every formerly inhabited site. Hidrun and Pallas gathered their full fighting force and rode out to meet him. After many months, nothing was seen or heard of them.
Then Hemione looked out the castle windows one day to find the Swarthine Horde at the gates, the corpses of her sister and husband impaled on sharpened staves either side of Baphometros's palanquin.
Onag's Hold fell in six days. Many stories are told of the valour of Hemione and her father's warriors in their last moments. Half the Swarthine Horde died storming the castle and Baphometros himself did not live to see himself crowned as, attempting to force himself on the captured Hemione as a final gesture of victory, the donkey princess bit his throat open before being torn apart by his sons, the first and last time she had ever hurt a living creature.

Enslavement: Nag-Bahan
With an heir unnamed, his kin, the newly named House of Bahan then spent the next several centuries warring amongst one another, building petty castles and states and fighting over the full measure of their forefather's inheritance.
One thing was certain, the cruelty they showed the enslaved donkeys was unparalleled.
One notable cruelty was the way they fished for a local delicacy, Coldwater Leeches.
Massive bloodsucking parasites, they dwelt in the bogs and marshes between the hills and fishing for them was a risky business. So a donkey slave would be lowered into the bog on a pulley system, brought out again crawling with leeches which would then be picked off the body, one by one, a normally fatal procedure.
Slaves would be tortured or raped to death as a novelty, the culture and resources of the Bahan going into creating new ways to make a slaves torment last that much longer.
Nag-Bahan became known as a realm of nightmares, where nobeast was safe and every sentient beast either wanted to hurt you or was forced to obey a master who wanted to hurt you.
For centuries this continued, unseen by the neighbouring kingdoms, each plagued by its own troubles.
Until the day Dunneca the Stubborn led the donkeys to liberate their homeland.

Nice of you to say so.

do you ever run out of such amazing ideas?

Well, that's kind of what I did for the last week or so.
I felt like adapting something and Onageria had been mentioned more than a few times.

Thanks. All of its based on history or folklore in some way or another.
By the way, it's worth mentioning that Onageria isn't really meant to be based off any specific country.
Though...

In the alpine hills and plains east of Alasaria, west of the Straits of Hamara, north of Haissan and south of Conland, the autonomous state known as Onageria is situated.

Real-World Equivalents
Alasaria-Hungary
Hamara-Hittites
Haissan-Ottoman Empire (From Prince Staghorn's The Known World and The Sisters Doo by Ponky)
Conland-Poland

Could be anywhere really.
