Many Parts is a highly polished story from the get go, and it follows it up with a cohesive and meaningful story to boot. It creates a short segment in Trixie’s life that explores areas we don’t often get to see (at not from what this reviewer has seen). Though, for all its polish, it still in the end suffers from some issues.
Grammar and mechanics wise Many Parts is on point from a technical perspective. I state this because there are some parts that, while not necessarily being mistakes or issues, come across as very wordy with either the verbiage used or the length of the sentence. With those parts that are common throughout, the flow of reading the story can be clunky forcing the reader to re-read sections. Some of the verbiage is used to describe magic and its use; the narrator constantly states how something was “in their magic” or they (the character) grabbed something “in their magic”. And an exact quote:
“grabbing in her magic her program and folded-up photograph from where she had wedged it between the seat and the armrest with her magic”.
This single sentence is clunky with the verbiage, it could be broken up or worded differently with some commas.
Story wise Many Parts succeeds well; the author gives just enough information on the characters in order to provoke curiosity. The ending at first may seem to come quick, however, with the story’s closure and its answer to the story worthy problem this ending neatly brings the story together. There is information that we are forced to initially infer, but by the end we are given the evidence to confirm whatever suspicions we might have had.
Many Parts may not be greatly different in its tone from other popular stories, but through its writing it gives another spin to a common genre making it stand out from the rest of the crowd. While it may not be ground shaking or world shattering, the story does offer a compelling narrative that many can appreciate and enjoy.
