As you know, there's been an attempt of a government take-over by some members of the army, and it failed. Yet, the Turkish stock market is still feeling the effects. Their currency reached its lowest value compared to other currencies.

You can see the Turkey stock market here:

With the recent streak of positive days all over the word, I have come to believe that the whole market is overbought and we're bound to get a small correction in the next week or so.

Turkey, however, is just priming itself for a rebound. There won't be any coup again for a while. Things are stable. They're also doing everything they can to boost the stock sentiment.

So, if you like the idea of increasing your wealth by up to 10% in a month time, Turkey is where I'd be. Let me know in the comments what you think about the prospects of Turkey?

With the chaos of the region in general and the constant interferance from the US any semblance of stability will probably be temporary.

5373830 If Erdoğan keeps his current direction this isn't going to be the first spot of instability Turkey sees.

Told ya' it would rebound.

Turkey: In the aftermath of the failed coup thousands of military, judiciary, civil service and education
workers have been suspended, detained or are being investigated. Meanwhile , the Turkish economy
is under pressure as travel and tourism revenues have declined and the Lira is close to a historical low
against the US dollar. Standard & Poor’s downgraded Turkey’s outlook to negative while Moody’s rating
process is under way. If the latter’s rating decision matches Standard & Poor’s there will be additional
downward pressure on Turkish financial markets.
Furthermore, relations between Turkey and the European Union are strained as Europe does not agree
to visa liberalization for Turkish citizens, while Turkey blames European leaders for not being supportive
of Turkey’s post-coup anti-terrorism policy. This has resulted in an increase in the influx of refugees in the
weeks following the coup and is now putting the deal between Turkey and the EU over the refugee crisis
in jeopardy. If the deal breaks down, the influx of refugees will surge dramatically posing another source of
economic and political tensions in Europe.

After US hike in December 2016, Turkey might get hot for investing again.

If Hillary Clinton wins, Turkey might not look so hot.

“Most importantly, she emphasized the central role of the Kurdish forces in the region: ‘I would consider arming the Kurds; they have been our best partners in Syria, as well as Iraq,’ she said,” the Israeli daily reported.

Clinton should have been aware that such a statement would seriously irritate some people, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Kurds are like terrorists in the eyes of Turkey.

If Trump wins, the Fed won't raise the rates in December. That would spell good news for Turkey since they profit from weak dollar (raised rates strengthen dollar).

Turkish lira is at its lowest value. And you know what that means—buying opportunities. Especially since dollar stopped appreciating (ergo lower costs for loans that Turkey took in the past). If there was ever a time to buy Turkey, it is now.

Remember the last time I advised you to buy Turkey? It shot up 10%. Well, I'm now predicting that if you buy now and hold it for a year, you'll get 20% profits out of it.

Bad Dragon

I take it back. With FED's rate hike being almost a certainty at this point, Turkey might not be the smart move. This year.

In 2017, I stay by my claim of 20% profit.

Until the end of 2016, Russia is the new black.

5641383 Turkey legalised rape within marriage today. I know it's not exactly economic policy but no country that alienates half its labour force is going to stay competitive.

5641932 You have a good point. All Islamic countries face this issue that prevents them from being competitive with the modern countries.

Though, I seemed to have missed the news about legalized rape within marriage. Was it a court decision or did they pass a law?

5642559 About nine hours ago

And it's in parliament. (I was about to say real countries don't use courts to legislate but then I remembered Turkey is about legalise rape)

Turkey is running several campaigns to prop up their currency. Short-term that means Turkish stocks will rise.

FED's rate hike is also coming on Wednesday 2016.12.14. Technically that's bad for Turkey, but I believe the price of that is already included in Turkish stock (I've checked what happened to the stocks when this scenario occurred in the past).

I believe now is the best time to buy Turkey stocks.

The bill was withdrawn:

Well that's good to hear.

Unfortunately seeing as Syria's retaken Aleppo it might mean the SAF will be directing more attention to the Turkish intervention in the west. Nothing creates uncertainty like a war!

5677105 Indeed, things could escalate. There's even talk of throwing Turkey out of NATO.

However, a lot of uncertainty is already accounted for in the Turkish stocks. They're extremely undervalued as it is. The trend of people all over the world migrating to riskier stocks in search of value is continuing. I believe it's just a matter of time before they lay their eyes on Turkey. Most of the lion share profits have already been made elsewhere, and the money on the sidelines has a tendency to itch until it gets invested.

Turkey: Instability in the aftermath of the failed coup led both Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s to downgrade
Turkey’s outlook to negative but Standard & Poor’s recently upgraded Turkey’s outlook to “stable” noting
that despite Turkey’s high private sector external debt the government is enacting the right policies to
reduce any external vulnerabilities. Furthermore, the Lira remains near historically low levels against the
US dollar as tourism and the Turkish economy suffer due to the recent coup attempt and the terrorist
attacks that have followed.
Furthermore, relations between Turkey and the European Union are strained as Europe has not agreed to
visa liberalization for Turkish citizens, while Turkey blames European leaders for not being supportive of
Turkey’s post-coup anti-terrorism policy. In addition, Erdogan has disputed the Treaty of Lausanne which
defines modern Turkey’s borders which adds to the already strained relations with the EU. If these disputes
cannot get resolved in the near-term the deal between Turkey and the EU over the refugee crisis will be in
jeopardy. If the deal breaks down, the influx of refugees will surge dramatically posing another source of
economic and political tensions in Europe.

5797058 I recommended buying Turkey on 2016.12.07. Let's see how it fared so far:

6% in just 2 months. That's 10 times more than you'd get in a bank in a whole year. In my book, that's a good investment.

But your concerns are also valid. I'm not as bullish in Turkey as I used to be. I don't think it's a bad investment, per se, I just don't think it will yield as much as Brazil did (80% in a year).

The major thing with Turkey is that their leader is trying to buy off the people to get ahead of his competition. That means social security and higher minimum wage. That's all good for the people but bad for the economy. Turkey could go the way of India, but instead, it chose the path of socialism.

Seeing that oil prices will range from $70 – $80 by late 2017, my money is on Russia now. And it's not just oil that'll keep it up. It's the low valuations that will attract new investors when they run out of good investments. Just look at this:

India is also growing really fast, but evaluations aren't so attractive as with Russia.

PS. If you have any concerns, feel free to make a thread about them and we can talk it out until we figure out what the best investment for you should be.

On April 2017 there will be a referendum in Turkey to change the constitution. If it succeeds, the president will gain more power. That might scare off some investors, which in turn, would lower the value of the Turkish stocks.

Oh, and Turkey might have some problems with America in the near future:
