So I have an idea for a story that involves one or more ponies going to an alternate universe where monsters reside. While I am taking some inspiration from one of my favorite childhood(ish) movies, Monsters Inc, I thought I might try to put my own spin on it. For example I had thought of this idea that the main location the characters live in is actually a city in a massive underground cavern where the monster's homes, streets and towns are build off/in the hanging stalactites.

While I want to try to add a few unique twists to this setting, I also want to have keep somethings similar to pony society in order to make the world seem too alien to the characters. I had considered that perhaps the city is ruled by a queen (or queens) as a thought.

Well, I just thought I would post this here and see if anyone had any ideas/suggestions they might want to throw in that we can discuss.
