Hey guys, my name is Flec. I'm a socialist, but I hope you will have me in your ranks regardless. I've been a Marxist for almost ten years and I always love to hear how others discovered the wisdom of equality. I, for one, was very interested in WW2 in my younger years and learned a great deal about the weapons and tactics the allies used against the axis, and became increasingly intrigued by the USSR and Stalin's tactic of "One rifle, two men", really wondering how big a nation it must have been to supply that many troops. I learned of Stalin's dictatorship and that lead me to Lenin, who turned into my first real role model. I studied his ideals a bit more in-depth and came to the realization that equality was the only way to ensure the propagation of the Human Race. This was also coupled by the horrifying image I had of the Holocaust, and my visit to the Holocaust museum in Los Angeles shortly thereafter.

So, how did you find out about Marxism?

4243877 In the shower I had actually just been really into (much like you) WW2 especially the war in the pacific from an ANZAC (Australia & New Zealand Army Corps) perspective. That led my all-seeing eye upwards to the Red Army fighting in manchuria and just like clockwork I had already ordered my first Soviet uniform. And the rest as they say is history...

4243877 We are also honoured to have you amongst our ranks :twilightsheepish:

Well, I don't support the Soviet Union at all, but a few years back I started thinking about how unfair the capitalist system was and how we'd all be better or Marxist (as in, what Marx taught, not anyone else's version). At the moment I'm not really Marxist either, but I've got my own version of communism, or at lease non-capitalism, that I'm going with.

4243877 I totally agree.

I am brazilian. My father spent five years without a job and all we had to eat for a while (WHEN we would eat) was just some real bad pasta with nothing (like, just salt, tasteless pasta and water). Living like this without electricity in a tiny home with holes on the hoove already drove me to deslike the current system.

But after my unemployment in 2013, when living alone (in the same house I grew up - it is in even worse shape, despite my efforts to fix it), I managed to get myself a computer and leech internet from my neighbour. I began to use my free time to study and, personally? I think Marxism is the most logical way of government.

4243877 It is always great to have people like you in our ranks. The main problem Marxism had in the world is exactly caused by the division between socialists and communists - and all their branches and philosophies.

4243877 I live in Brazil, when you see extreme poverty every day like I do, it becomes difficult to support capitalism.

Me? I've generalyl considered myself a socialist by default for all my life since most of the Armenian diaspora adheres to the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, BUT was opposed to communism due to the infighting during the Russian Civil War. The ARF deemed the Bolsheviks as traitors, but remained socialist.

I on the other hand, became a Marxist mostly out of a sense of Armenian National Pride to create a system where we would control our own fates rather than having elite machine men order us around (as has happened too many times in our history). This decision is controversial for the Armenian diaspora, but 60% of Armenians apparently miss the USSR.

That and econ 101 (taught by a conservative teacher no less). The free market has too many flaws and the economy is better off under collective worker management. As a I believe humans are superior, we can create a democratic/technocratic system that won't be flawed. After all, we're a utopian species hellbent on progression.

Much like you in my days learning of world history mainly cold war and WW2. Lenin became a source of inspiration to me both for my stories and my beliefs and philosophy. Even in death his words and actions moved me and I began to learn about Marxism. It wasn't long before I became infinitely fascinated about everything involved in the revolution, in Communism, in Russian history. Believe it or not my thanks goes to my World history teacher who Ironically is in the service for the U.S army:applejackconfused:

While I do not identify as a Marxist either politically or academically, I find that some Marxist theories, particularly those regarding institutional behavior, are useful when analyzing certain economic phenomena. My background is in economics and I admire Marx's work in advancing the discipline, so I guess I will pinpoint that time as being some point in the middle of earning my B.A..

4243877 I'm not a Marxest, I really just like joining groups because that's what all the cool kids do.

I saw Karl Marx in my dreams, he told me all of the horrors of the capitalist rats. In addition to his beautiful Russian Accent, he convince me that Marxism the only way to peace.

Joking aside, I'm not actually a Marxist. It's used it as a joke for the most part. That and I find communist history to be very intriguing.

I'm not really I believe the socialist experiment failed because it failed to take into account human greed especially the greed of humans in power even Lenin's mother was given a palace after the revolution. That is not to say I'm not a communist I believe in a mixed system where ones basic needs for western life are looked after and one is free to work towards their wants to each according to his ability to each according to his needs and all

4530255 There are several problems though with the "human greed" arguement that cappies like to belt out.

First of all it fails to ask the question of "why are humans greedy". Or when it does, they make it out to be "humans are just naturally greedy" which first of all isn't really an answer but more of a hand wave, and secondly is circular reasoning.
"Why are human's greedy?"
"Because it's human nature."
"What is human nature?"
"That humans are greedy."

Secondly it fails to take into account (or denies due to the unpleasant implication) is that capitalist society, by its very nature as an institution, both overtly and subvertly, encourages and propagates human greed by means of ideology (IE Ayn Rand. Even though she says it in the most obvious and blatant way possible, most capitalists try to at least hide behind a false veneer of altruism IE charity) and advertising. We are told as children that we should aspire to become rich and famous, that this will make our lives so much easier, therefore greed is implanted in our minds from day 1. We are told that we need big fancy houses that we only ever use 10% of, and fleets of SUVs and Sports Cars that hardly ever get used. That X commodity will make your life better, and when that fails, Y commodity will make life so much better.

It's another circular cycle:
- Capitalists create a society that is based on and perpetuates greed.
- Capitalists turn around and say humans are naturally greedy because they grew up in a capitalist society and don't know of anything else.

4530285 When I talk about greed I am mostly referring to Stalinist Socialism and the branches of which that centered around the state and thus the leader leading to an aristocracy of state officials making their will manifest to the detriment of the people like the forced buying of Ukrainian wheat and the subsequent price drops making it literally more effective to burn the stuff for your fire than to sell it to the government. Again I do not disagree with communism what I do disagree with is socialism and the second stage to the utopia.

Well, I was also very interested in WW2 (More so to the USSR vs. Germany), and I became interested in the Cold War after a while. I read about Stalin and the USSR and found the origins of the victorious Communism. I found a lot of information about Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin (Who became my idol). P.S. I HATE STALIN! HE IS A DISGRACE TO THE GOOD NAME OF COMMUNISM!

EDIT: What the fuck was wrong with me!?

4243877 about the same but my dad was stationed in berlin in the 80s I though huh what did they fight. Marxism insures.
