Something having the entire My Little Pony Tales series on DVD made me realize?

The series writers were paying a good bit more attention that it seemed at first glance.
In most shows, when they want to do a motion sickness gag, they do whatever character is available and funniest at the time. In this show? It's ALWAYS Bon Bon and ONLY Bon Bon. It's just just a one off joke, it's a big part of her character.

In Roll Around the Clock, Sweet Heart is MISSING when the group tries to doll up Bright Eyes...and she's the only character with a consistent love interest at that point who she loves for something on the INSIDE not something on the outside, so her being there wouldn't make any sense.

Something with Patch:

The Tea Party: Patch is the one in charge of the group constructing booby traps and the ONLY member of the group to be doing actual replacement and construction on Logan's family's house.

The Play's The Thing: Patch is shown constructing the stage backdrops (ironically enough she also did Bon Bon's old lady make up).

The Great Lemonade Stand Wars: Patch was the one who built the group's lemonade stand, which looked to involve a good bit of wood work.

Princess Problems: Patch started the project to build a playground for the orphanage she came from. We also see her father hauling construction materials around, which she tries to help him with.

In other words: one of the things Patch is passionate about and GOOD AT is, ironically, construction work. As she's frequently shown doing it and being pretty good at it.

But the BIG one?

Lemonade Wars: Lancer misses the trash can throwing away his paper cup and it's focused on when it really didn't need to be.

Blue Ribbon Blues: Teddy accidentally dumps an entire picnic basket and its contents into the water, and won't go after them because he's afraid of swimming. They never get it back.
What happens in the series finale? It turns out the town being reckless and irresponsible in throwing away their garbage resulted in it being washed into the river by rain water among other things. They were foreshadowing it the whole season!

In other words, the show was a LOT better at consistent narrative and characterization than most give it credit for.
